CSEMARTIN
I've been reading my Kuhnhausen manual in preparation for the barrel fitting. Do any of you pro's use a barrel hood stoning fixture? Do you really need one? Who sells them? Do you guys make your own? I checked brownells and midway, and they don't sell one.
Flexmoney
I think many mill it. I learned to use a file(s) and vice in the C&S class. (and a candle to "smoke" the part with) Which K-book and what page are you on?
HSMITH
I use one, but it is a contraption I made myself. So many of the jigs and fixtures you buy just flat SUCK it isn't funny. Files, a good set of soft jaws with a little marking method and the Mark 1 Mod 0 eyeball like Kyle was taught to use is as good as anything commercial out there. Think hardened tool steel V-blocks, sized right for the barrel. That is more or less what I use to keep the hood square, and control the size very closely. .002" is a mile to me. Aircooled6racer
Hello: I use a EGW barrel holding fixture to get it close in a milling machine. Final fitting I do by file. The fitting is very important so take your time. Thanks, Eric

bigsaxdog
i gotta small 9x20 southbend style lathe. mounted a small grinding wheel on a 3/4" shaft between centers, and trued it, along with @ 1/2" of the sides. got a small palmgren mill vise on ebay. square it all up, put the barrel in the vise, and slowly grind and check. this works great, fits real square, and real fast. real easy to take a couple of thousanths off real square. my own contraption......
