The consensus is that the cost vs. the bureaucracy is not a feasible adventure. HOWEVER.....we really need to know that now that the Dems control the congress & White House we WILL see some crazy stuff. The best thing (IMO) is to 1. be prepared, 2. make sure a reasonable unified voice is heard as to WHY these things won't work as planned!

Perhaps the single most important thing to keep in mind here is to "follow the money." With almost everything that happens in legislatures, there is some group with money pushing it. In this case, it is a lobbying group that is funded by the one US company that has the patent on the technology to imprint the bullets. Do you see where this is going?

The lobbying group has no interest what-so-ever in public safety. This is about profit. And this can ultimately be the most effective tool in fighting them because it calls into doubt all of their arguments in favor of doing this.

It is also important to bear in mind that politicians must be seen to be doing something about a problem. It doesn't matter if it will work or not, as long as they do something. So, the solution often becomes, give them something else to do that will do some good.

<off soapbox>

According to our local news sources, the US government as of today owns 39% of CitiBank. Anything is possible.
