scandog
We need to start sharing our equipment designs. I have made several wood swingers that work great. I have a slider and flip up target made from wood also. These could be made by most anyone. For clubs starting out or those that have plenty of helpers, shared target designs will help everyone. We are great at sharing our CoF's, but it is hard to find ideas for moving targets unless you go to a comercial site. We have also started using a PLC that can be programmed at the range without a PC. That along with a 28v and 12v power supply, some power door lock motors and stair security pressure switches and you have some wild stages. list any sites with info
kaiserb
This all sounds interesting, do you have any sketches or pictures you could post?
scandog
I am going to take my digital camera to the Range tomarrow. I will take pictures and post them. I don't have any drwaings yet. The two swingers I am using were the prototypes. I will post the pictures on our club website. I should have enough room to post pistures for others if it would help to share them. I would rather build something than buy it. Sometimes it ends up costing more until the bugs are worked out, but if something needs repair, it is no problem. I will update here after I get my pictures posted.
shred
Cool idea. Our club is blessed with a really good metalworker, but prototyping stuff in wood is much cheaper and easier for most of us to do. And any more info on the stair switches and motorized stages would be cool too.. We had a pneumatic steel setup a while back, but the lines kept getting cut by splatter. scandog
Let me know what you think of the targets. I have not seen any response yet to the photos. I was going to post dimensions and more photos. I have a slider that cost probably less than $50 to build. I can post it along with photos of how to build some of the others as I am going to be making more. I can also show our actuators, the PLC we use to run our stages, different types of switches and everything will run from 2 12volt batteries. If I don't see any replies, I will assume I don't need to spend the time. I would also like to see what others have built. The Idea was to share ideas with others. Flexmoney
Well, I have pictures of the Steel Challenge targets that the local club uses. #
Flexmoney
#2 These are completely modular. The bases are a seperate unit (easy to carry). The posts can be any hieght you want. I think the club has a good supply of 3, 4, & 5 foot posts. The attachment bracket slide over the top of the post. The targets (various sizes and shapes) have a tab welded to the back. They attach to the bracket with the bolts. Setup is pretty quick and easy.
shred
Sorry Scandog, I'm always interested in target ideas, but my employer whose internet connection they're generously letting me surf BE.com on don't think it's appropriate I visit Homestead.com sites, so I'll have to remember to look at 'em at home. Run n Gun
Scandog, Flex, Thanks for all of the GREAT information! Scandog, VERY clever. Unfortunately it comes about 3 weeks too late for us. We just went to R&R Racingand bought a BUNCH of stuff that we could have built ourselves. Oh well, we can always use MORE things. The only good thing is that R&R is only a half an hour down the road… no freight. Ed
scandog
I fuond some target info for the home builder. Check out these sites and check back on my site again later this weekend. I have more pictures of the slider I built. http://www.geocities.com/freeidaho/SimpleW...vingTarget.html http://www.geocities.com/freeidaho/Skatebo...boardMover.html http://www.geocities.com/freeidaho/RRT/RRT.html I have built this one. It works well for everything larger than a 9mm. For the 9mm you almost have to shoot the head and two shots work much better than one. http://www.geocities.com/freeidaho/FlipUpT...ipUpTarget.html I have also built this one. I still have to get the counter weighting correct. Other stuff worth looking at http://www.geocities.com/freeidaho/EnPeFySP14-P11.html Have fun and let me know if it works.
