Hawker
Anyone have an idea of the PF of this load: 4.5gr VV N320 230 FMJ MG OAL 1.250 Since I don't have a chrono... I'd like to get an idea where this is. The load shoots very soft, but is still accurate. Thanks, Hawker
GlocknSchpiel
Hawker, With the limited info given, it would be close to impossible to guesstimate the PF for that load. There are many variables that can effect TRUE PF. What are you shooting these rounds from? What Primer? The amount of crimp. The Brand of bullet (different Co's have different shaped bullets in the same weight, this can effect the amount of bullet actually Inside the case). The best Guestimate would be from where ever you got the initial load data. Might be best if you can find someone local with a Chrono and send a few downrange thru it. This will give you the best and most accurate results. >sorry for the DRY Tone, this is not a flame message< Take care, Glockn...
Rufus The Bum
Hawker, the VV website lists the following 230 FMJ 4.9 grns VV N320 = 797fps 5.3 grns VV N329 = 863fps (MAX LOAD) OAL 1.
Rufus The Bum
VV N320, not 329, my mistake. From what they give, 797fps is 183pf. I would guestimate that 4.5 grns would be right around 165-170pf
Hawker
The gun I am shooting this load is a Performance Center S&W 625 with 5.25" barrel. Here are some more details on the load: 230 gr. FMJ Montana Gold Bullet Starline Brass OAL: 1.250 Taper crimp to spec. 4.5 gr. VV N320 Federal 150 primers Can anyone recommend a Chrono that will work indoors without a power cord? The range I shoot at does not have an electrical outlet handy. Thanks for the feedback. Thanks. Hawker
gm iprod
Try the Oehler, CED Millennium, Pact. You can use 12volt lights as long as the are DC, therefore they will run of a car battery. These work well as they don't flicker and confuse the light sensors.
para45
I posted a load on another string and I think you are going to find out it is down around 155 PF. I had to go up to 4.9 to make major. But as some have said there are so many factors that you have to chrono them to be sure. Good luck, John DVC
spook
I agree with the rest here. Use a chrono. I went by the book (also VVN320, 4.7 behind a 230) a couple of years ago and ended up shooting minor (~158PF) Load velocities are VERY gun specific.
