Blast Shield Required?

Is a blast shield only required if the barrel is ported or is it a good idea to have one even if it's not?

I usually only see them on guns where the barrel is ported.......which is the majority of guns these days.

My steel gun is setup with just a comp, and I had a few scopes & mounts without blast shields. = I was much happyer with the shield.

But a Badg is not required.... becuse 'We don't need no stinking Badges"

Ported barrel, most definitely!

No ports , maybe not, depending on comp port angle

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I think I'm gonna go ahead and get a blast shield. Better safe than sorry right!

I've got a long wait 'till the gun arrives so I'm sure I'll find a few more accessories to add to it while I wait!

Small price to pay compared to replacing the lens on a C-More. I think you are making a wise decision. I agree with 9X21, alot depends on the port angle.

I've never ran a blast shield, until my officer's length hybrid.

When I first shifted from the Tanfoglio's to STI, my first pistol was a 5" slide with a 4-port hybrid. The back side of the lense received more soot than the front.

My current open gun is a Brazos Pro Sx, 4-poppleholes. Smokes up the lense the same as the hybrid

I always apply a protective coating, which enables the residue to be wiped off with a cotton rag.

Just my own experiences.

Oh yea, on the modified, I'm running an OKO with intregal blast shield. I forget to apply the coating and almost didn't get it clean after the first hundred rounds. Last night I discovered that the blast shield was cracked and was only 5° from the scope.
