If I understand correctly, they are great to avoid light strikes due to light hammer (main) springs, but wouldn't the extra length have the effect of piercing primers on hot major loads? zhunter Posted February 19, 2007 Share Posted February 19, 2007 After this past weekend, I will NEVER have a gun without one. I had some light strikes that failed to fire due to some VERY slightly high primers. Switched out after two stages and only had 3 failures on the last 8 stages. I look at it as insurance. srf Posted February 19, 2007 Share Posted February 19, 2007 This is strickly anecdotal, so I can't say it proves anything - but: When I started using a 15lb. mainspring, (with a Koenig hammer, TI strut and cap, and EGW or Extreme Engineering sear) I also started using a long firing pin, and have never had a misfire with 30-40K + rounds.
