Merlin Orr
AFAIK..... I can't tell on your last photo if the triangle is part of the rear sight or is it representing the front post having a triangle shape to it? If the triangle shape seen in the last photo is representing the front sight - all of the sights are legal...as...Notch and post sights are legal.... Middle Man
On that last picture link: 2 could be loosely defined as a notch, but probably wouldn't fit in the box with many pistols 3 is not a notch type rear blade
Hank Frank
From my litle knowledge, the third picture is a Caspian replacement for a Bomar. Items 2 & 3 are "ghost rings" I thought ghost rings where not allowed in IDPA. If they are, let me at them.
Jim Watson
No 1 XS and No 2 Warren are fine. No 3 is the Caspian Bo-mar clone. Certainly the square notch is ok. The ring and diamond aperture sights are not allowed in IDPA. The question is whether the ring with a gap as illustrated would still be considered an aperture and disallowed or whether the gap made it into some kind of acceptable notch. In the olden days of German scheutzen there was an open sight competition for which some shooters used a peep sight with a narrow saw cut from the aperture to the edge of the disk as a rule beater. I don't make the rules but I would discourage the use of gimmicks in search of loopholes like that. Edited February 6, 2007 by Jim Watson
Hot Brass
I agree with Jim. #2 is pushing it and #3 is a ring. Out of curiosity I looked up the word notch on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notch Dictonary.com does not use the word hole in its definition: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/notch If you ask any gun person the definition of "notch", their response would not include the word "hole". My interpretation of the intent of the IDPA rules would make 2 and 3 illegal. Both look fragile to me.
Headshot45
#1 is legal #2 is legal #3 is legal in configuration 1, but configs 2 and 3 are not legal UNLESS the top half of the sights are cut off, making them a "notch" under rules definitions.
