renaissance7697
I have been seeing a fair amount of discussion about this lately It grabs my attention because I just went through a long trama with mine recently Had all kinds of problems getting the disk to advance properly Finally wound up just replacing all the related parts from my spare parts kit. That fixed it, but I do not know what was wrong in the first place. Index arm - spring - index ball - spring It behaved as if the "hook" on the indexing lever was binding It would not reliably ( consistently) advance the disk and then retreat to the next ( one less) position. I looked carefully at the index arm, but it did not appear to be bent. Spring was not bent, seemed to be stiff The index ball and spring were "in position" but was unable to tell if they were "doing their thing" properly Question is: Which is the "right" / "up" (positioned facing toward the primer magazine) side of the disk. On mine, the Small disk is stamped "S" for small on BOTH Sides. It can be installed either side "up" Both sides "look" the same Not much help there.... It there a "Righ" and/or Wrong Side to the disk or Should it not make any difference ?? If it could make a difference, how do you tell which is correct? dillon
There is no single "right side up" on the primer disc. Both sides are okay in either direction. I suspect the finger on the index lever was bent a bit, based on your description. Another possibility is that the axle pin that both the primer disc and the index lever pivot around might be dry. This axle pin should be greased(not oiled).
dajarrel
Your'e supposed to lubricate it?????
renaissance7697
Dillon: Thank you for your excellent and "To the point" advice. I believe you are right on about the "Bent" And your response brings up a point I've been thinking about for a long time. Lubrication! Why does the documentation ( at least that which I am familiar with) Not have a detailed discussion on: "Lubricating the 650" What should you lubricate? When / ( how often )? How?, and With What? I would appreciate one ( or direction to it if it exists ) Incidentally: I will lubricate my primer disk pivot post ASAP

Gavin Melville
Hi, Much as Dillon doesn't think the primer disk has a correct way up it actually does. To show this place a new primer (be careful, wear glasses) in one of the holes while flat on a table (or whatever) that has a fairly sharp edge, and slide the disk/primer off the edge at about the same rate as the disc rotates. One way up the primer will almost always tip and then stick, and the other way up the primer will almost always drop free. The reason for this is the lip that is just inside the chamferred portion of the hole is not symetrical -- ie. one end of the hole is larger than the other. That lip must be to the top. See my comments and drawings at http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43328. When I drew this I thought the lip was symetrical -- it is actually slightly smaller on one end. Dillon sent me a new primer disk and related parts, which was good of them, although they made no comment, either here or with the parts, which was less so. The 650 I was working on is now working fine -- the solution was not to allow primers to pass the puch in the first place. Those that do are almost certain (not absolutely certain) to fall into the little tray that spent primers sometimes get collected in. About 1 in a hundred still stick in the disk, and if not noticed they will pas to the end and get crushed. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not slanging Dillon's products -- I couldn't be happier with my own 1050, but I have set up four 650's recently that I have recommended local club members buy and they all have primer issues that would be simple to fix.
