Law Dawg
I just purchased an SV framed open gun from a friend and it has a Shoemann hybrid barrel. At the last local match, I noticed that the gun was jamming a lot, and I noticed that the unfired round would get stuck in the barrel, and it would be a B*tch to clear the jam. When I got home, I case checked the jammed rounds in the Shoemann barrel and they would only go into the barrel halfway. I then case checked the same ammo in an STI trubor and the rounds would go in and out of the barrel with no problems. Has anyone had the same experience? Please share your ideas.......... Thanks, LD
38supPat
Your Hybrid barrel likely has a tight chamber, but your STI is a slut. Get a chamber guage and check the rounds in that, if they will pass a chamber guage but still will not go in Hybrid barrel, chamber is too tight. I've had this issue before, usually it comes from shooting the brass in the loose gun then trying to fire it, after reloading, in the tight one. If you have two guns and the chamber dimensions are different, keep the used brass from each separate.
Jon Merricks
"but your STI is a slut" LOL That’s a good one Pat. I don’t know if it will help but try tightening up on the extractor.
BSeevers
I would get a pistolsmith with a chamber reamer to check out your chamber. Sounds like it hasn't been finished reamed. (Edited by BSeevers at 10:56 pm on Feb. 20, 2003)
BrianH
Being as how the Shumann's come short-chambered, either someone did a bad job on it or just thought they could fakie it (like shoot 9X21 in a short .38...)
2alpha
Do you know for sure if the gun was running before you bought it? Also are you sure it was 38 super? Maybe it is a 9x23 or 9x21 or even 9x19 since you say the cases only go in half way.
Law Dawg
2 alpha, Out of 100 rounds, maybe 15 of them will not fit in the barrel....Go Figure!!!! Good one Pat!!!! LOL. The SLUT has been very good to me the past two years........ I like the idea of the undersized EGW die.
38supPat
The gun would likely work fine with a 9x23 chamber, though the brass would bulge a bit more, and he said it was running at a match, just jamming alot, so the short chamber theory is out. It could be that it needs to be finish reamed.
TMC
Law Dawg, is the barrel and AET? My AET is tight but when clean I can run 60-70 rounds before they start to hang up. This is with ammo I chamber checked by dropping them into the barrel. I think the flutes in the AET fill up with crap and that causes the sticking. Law Dawg
Pat, You were right....I tried brand new brass and the gun ran like a charm.........Thanks!!!!!!!!
38supPat
Take the brass you just fired, keep it separate from the rest, reload/resize it and see how it runs as once fired. Then you'll know for sure.
