I cannot access most "bad, bad, awful, naughty gun" sites due to our fiewwall at work, and I can't (won't) get internet at home in the sticks without paying $700 + $60/mo for satellite

This will probably get you into even more trouble at work, but in a pinch, Google can be used to get to 'bad' sites.

Here's another option for getting around a net nanny. Go to peacefire.org or google 'circumventor'.

Circumventors are web sites you can use for getting around web filters/blockers. They are set up to help folks in places like China and can get you to sites that the translator won't.

New sites are set up to replace ones that get blocked. You can subscribe to a service where they e-mail you links to new ones.

Using circumventors probably violates your company's acceptable use policy so be careful/discrete.
