Shoepop
AR 18" or whatever length barrel's are easy to make. Get a 20" in the contour/weight you desire, cut 1/4" longer than the finished length you want. A cut off tool in a lathe tool holder is good but you can just use a hack saw. If you don't have a lathe or access to one and someone that knows how to use it go to a local machine shop have them square/face the end of the barrel, cut and thread it whatever. Have a local smith crown the barrel. If you want to crown yourself get a kit from Brownells. I also use a tapered brass lapping tool with compound for the finishing touch. It is a very basic process, high school machine shop 101. You do not need to set up a steady rest etc. Because of the AR barrel configuration, just use a 3 or 4 jaw chuck run the barrel throught the lathe head stock, extend the end of barrel 2"s or so past chuck jaws. Do a check with a dial indicator adjust as required and follow the above. It is a VERY elementary process.
