Reloading issue

Good Evening,

I am starting to reload finally as I have come across some components. However, when doing some dry runs (No powder, no primer) I ran into an issue.

I keep getting these marks that show up on the top of my bullets. These are 180 RNFP Blue Bullets.

The marks are showing up from the seating die. FWIW, this is the seating die I am using... https://www.dillonprecision.com/seating-dies_8_4_24469.html

I was curious if I am using the correct end of the plug to seat the bullet? The one I am using is as shown in picture "Seating Plug 1."

Or, should I use the other end, as shown in "Seating plug 2."

I am reloading 40 Cal. 180 Gr RNFP Blue bullets.

If the plug is not the issue, what is?

Thank you,

Goat

That looks like the bullet is catching the edge of plug #1 and chipping the coating. Can you see any remnants of coatings in the plug? I generally use a flat type punch for those. You may be able sand the edge of that #1 to smooth it a bit.
