Butterpuc
I built a couple of ARs many years ago for 3gun, which I have not shot in at least 6 years now. Both rifles are tack drivers, one is 16” and the other 18”, both stainless and medium profile (I guess, that is what it is called, I think they are 0.750”, I can put a caliper in them when I get home). I have been pondering fluting both barrels to reduce weight and repurpose the rifles. Has anyone done this aftermarket with success?

Southpaw
For that price you might as well just buy a new barrel. You'll also have more weight reduction with a lightweight barrel than fluting existing barrel.
1981Shooter
I had a 24" bull barrel shortened to 22", threaded, and fluted by a local rifle builder for a reasonable fee. Took nearly a pound out of it, but could've gone way more aggressive with the fluting. Did it more for looks than anything. It went on a precision gas gun that weighs 14lbs, so I wasn't really trying to save weight.
