Did you guys know you there's a tiny little space between the back (top) of the barrel, and the frame?

I hate that little spot it should be called the " taint " cuz it taint barrel and taint frame

There's a round boss on the back of the barrel where it mates up to the frame. Above and below is a small clearance, usually around .002 to .003. It is the equivalent of free floating a rifle barrel so the point of impact doesn't shift as the barrel heats up.

The gap on my 617 is WAY bigger than that.

I think he is referring to the barrel extension inside the frame in between the under side of the top strap and the extension??

Yes, exactly. Mine was "welded"  closed with .22 lead and crap
