No problem, I’m just really looking to learn about the nitty gritty details. Is loading long a preference thing? How does is affect the performance of the ammo?

The rumor around the water cooler is that the original 1911 in .45 was designed around a round length of 1.245 so folks load long to reduce the likelihood of feeding issues with other calibers. I like to load 9mm at 1.125 and .40 at 1.2 and make sure my extractors are tuned properly and I don't have any feeding issues.

It is a preference thing, most people do not do it. Loading long for 40 cal 2011's is pretty common but long 9mm's in a 1911 I had not heard about before reading here.
