renaissance7697
I have set up 6 toolheads (each in a different caliber) for my 650. While doing so, I was not consistent in paying heed to the practice of: setting up/aligning the dies only with cases in ALL positions. I would like to go back and do so now, but if possible, without having to set up the dies all over again. Would it surfice to: A. 1) mount the toolheads one at a time with the platform UP and cases in every die position..............then 2) Loosen the lock rings one at a time and then tighten the lock rings back up. OR B. 1) mount the toolheads one at a time with the platform UP and cases in every die position..............then 2) loosen the lock rings of ALL the dies at the same time........and then Tighten them one at a time. If neither A nor B would properly do it: What could the group recommend as a proceedre for achiving "proper"alignment of the dies....hopefully without not having to set up the dies all over again. John Heiter
If it's common practice to align dies with cases in the shell plate, I've never heard of it before. Most dies that I have worked with require you to install them without a case in the shell plate and use the shell plate as a reference. There really shouldn't be any wobble in the dies that having the cases in the shell plate could fix so I think you're ok to leave them like you have them if they are set properly. dillon
Cheat-get cases under all the die stations. Loosen the die lock rings. Pull the handle down, so you are performing the various operations at all the die stations. Leave the handle down! With the handle down, tighten the lock rings.
