texasref
Looking for input for the required powder amount under a 230 HP to make major power factor. I don't have a chrono. so I'm hoping some of you will have data on this. Thanks in advance.

RePete
You are still going to chrono out of your gun anyway, to know for sure. Be forewarned that 5.2gr/N320 is max.

Yep, that is correct. The range given in VV's website is 4.9-5.2, so a very small range to begin with.

I don't worry too much about 'max' in 45 since my brass and gun are less than 100 yrs old. My SD load (recommended by bill wilson) is way over the book max, but it shoots great with no pressure signs. It appears to be much lower pressure than the duty rounds by LE co-workers carry. Of course I would never recommend that anyone else apply math and common sense, so you should totally stick to the published data, I also prefer not to shoot 181pf ammo if I don't have to. I don't have my notes handy, but I think I was able to make major reliably with significantly less n320 than that, more like 4.8 grains or thereabouts, but I switched to faster burning powders that shoot softer instead, such as clays, n310, BA10, etc....
