Michael O from the Crosslake (20 min north of Brainerd) area here. Im a reformed and bored trap shooter who put down the shotgun 12-13 years ago and haven't shot any competitions since. My wife and I have a 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter and I own a couple small bus8inesses and between them and the kids free time is limited, but I was excited to see a lot of the 3 gun matches are Sundays. Ive never seen a 3 gun in person, but have seen a pile of youtube videos. Between Mark Stevens and Mac im surprised I haven't had a restraining order issued watching their videos. Im gearing up as I type this and hope to have my gear in line within the next 3-4 weeks so I can start going to matches and practicing here at home.

I'll ask for forgiveness in advance for what im sure will be some silly questions, but I have no friends who have any real experience in 3 gun. I believe the closest range is in St Cloud, which is almost 2 hours south of me.

Most of my questions here will be gear related, as much of it is very foreign to me. I have a basic understanding, but dont understand the finer points. I guess ill be in the tacops division from what I gather.

For guns I am pretty much lined out with some decent equipment.

Im working on my rifle as I write this. It is based off a Patriot Weaponry (Waupaca, Wi) billet upper and lower. I have most of the parts already but am working on getting a new 18" barrel shipped out this week. Im a decent rifle shot, but have plenty of room to grow and learn. Shooting on the move is completely foreign to me.

I have an unmodified and unfired 21" M2, but I spoke with Mark Stevens on the phone yesterday (thanks Mark!) and I believe he has talked me into going with a 24" and ill be having Hawkeye Ordinance modify it a bit. I do have a shotgun background so believe this will be my strongest game, but shooting on the move and reloading will be very new to me. Im not overconfident and will be very open to suggestions when you guys watch me drop all my shells!

The handgun scares the hell out of me to be honest. I own several, but am not very good with any. The only gun I have that is suitable is a completely unmodified glock 34. I understand most guys gravitate to the 1911/2011 style, and I might as well, but I think ill run this summer with a gun my hands know already. I'll put an enlarged magwell, new trigger, and some better sights on it but im guessing my skills wont warrant anything better for a while.

As far as gunbelt and all the gear strapped to it- im confused to say the least. I drove down to St Cloud yesterday and Jason at Tactical Advantage was very gracious and showed me his belt. In speaking with Mark yesterday I found out that Arnzen stocks some belts and pouches so ill make the drive there in the next week or two.

Anyway ill get on this site as much as I can over the next few weeks and pour through all the past posts looking to answers to the mountain of questions I already have, but im sure ill be asking a few questions that have already been hashed out here- so please forgive me.

Looking forward to an interesting summer-

Michael

Thanks fellas.

Jack, ive got a Mec 9000G 12 ga reloader, but for metallic all I have is a RCBS Rock Chucker that I bought when I graduated high school back in 1992. I do not currently load 9mm but do load some 223. That said, im going to get a few thousand rounds on order from bulk ammo soon so when the new rifle is completed ill have plenty of ammo to feed it.

For 12 ga im sitting on about 100 gallons of hulls, several cases of wads, about 40 lbs of clays and WST powder and I don't know how many thousands of primers. Lead is in short supply however, I believe I have 2 or 3 bags of 7 1/2 hard shot left. Back in the day I split a pallet of shot with a buddy but we both burned through it since then.

I know I will not be getting into loading 9 mm or 223 in any quantity this year. I burned my old reloading bench that was in the basement last summer to make room for another bedroom and my attached garage is completely full of just about everything imaginable. I am in the process of finishing a new shop and when that's done ill clean out the attached garage and put up a new bench in there which ill be able to lock up and keep our curious 5 year old son from getting into too much trouble. Ive always wanted to get into a Dillon or something of that nature- but that's in the future.

I did recently pick up 5000 once fired 9mm brass in preparations...
