fair enough. the reason cuts replicating what they do from factory is attractive is that there's evidence (assuming it's cut correctly) that it doesn't weaken the slide in any meaningful way (many of those slides around the world running like that), and it'll be easy to find springs and loads that work well with a slide of that weight and balance as it's a known quantity. Having said that you may well be able to improve on it both in aesthetics and performance. I particularly think removing material from the rear to balance the material removed from the front is probably a good idea.
