For 38 super/cupercomp MAJOR:

I use HS-6 iwith MG 124gr JHP or FMJ on occasion.

MG 124gr JHP @ 1.235" OAL

or

MG 124gr FMJ @ 1.250

with

HS-6 @ 9.0 gr /Win SRP (This particular lot seems a little slow, so don't use this a s a starting point)

Either load shoots at about 168-170 pf out of my guns.

If you are trying to make major IMO starting somewhere in the low eight grain range would be safe.

Starting should be starting, as in starting load in manual. Even if you only fire one round at each charge weight increment, you work up.

Major is achieved at 8.7gn in one of my guns with HS6 and the rest need more powder. I dropped HS6 due to pressure signs to achieve major. If I knew that 7.9-8.0gn had been good with another 124gn bullet, I "might" start there as it is a 10% drop from what may be your goal.

The highest starting load I have in any manual is 7.5, and that is with 6.8gn HS6 being max in one manual.
