Tom S.
Rather than tag along in someone else's hate thread, I figured I should start my own. I got a new card about a month ago. When using it twice in the past few days, I found out it has a new chip embedded in it that requires inserting it into a new type of card reader instead of the old swipe method. That's OK, but in both cases, from there it took a L-O-N-G time to verify the card and approve the purchase. One giant leap backwards in the name of security. GrumpyOne
Hate the new cards all you want now, you will learn to appreciate them. That chip gives every transaction a unique identifier code, which makes it much easier to find where it was used and also makes it much more difficult to copy the card info. kneelingatlas
Your convenience is not a top priority for the CC company because you are not their customer.
ivan
Chipped credit cards are the standard in Canada and have been for many years. The lag time after entering the PIN to authorizing is usually in the 4 or 5 second range. If things are slower in your neck of the woods, my guess is that performance will only improve as systems are upgraded. -ivan-
Nathanb
And it doesn't matter because it still leaves the biggest avenue of breach. Most cards are not stolen from skimming
