bgfire
I picked up some 165 grn HP Rainiers recently, and was wondering what powders you out there in reloading land like to use with this bullet/weight? I will be loading in a Glock 27. I want to use the loads strictly for target (informal) and plinking, somewhere in the 900-1000 fps range. I have loaded Unique, Blue Dot, HS-6, and HS-7 in other cartridges in the past, but have only loaded Unique in the 40 S&W. I am not looking so much for a specific load, just for a powder recomendation and why you like/use that powder. I won't be shooting competitions, so don't need to "make" power factors. They are just for "fun" shooting, as my daughter says. I won't be using them for ccw carry either; I'll leave that chore to the Golden Sabre's and the Win SXT's. Thanks for the help in advance. .40AET
Jeff Maass Reloads Titegroup looks good and it's price is great.
Harmon
a light charge of straight clays fills the bill for my lighter steel loads...and it costs about the same as tight group...and its lots cleaner than the unique you using now!
stingerjg
im loading 165gr Rainier HP over Tite group. good for hot loads and light. Fairly clean overall. and like harmongreer said it would be alot cleaner than Unique.
Lycanthrope
Have used Titegroup and Clays for the 165's and TG meters a lot better for me.

seniorlefty
My three guns in .40(Para,S/A P9 and Ruger PC4 rifle )all like WW-WST. Around 4gr works just fine for a plinking load. (Insert usual disclaimer here)Seniorlefty
John R
I use the AA powders and find them to be very clean. AA-2 and AA-5 are very good powders for loading 40 and 45 ACP. I also use AA-2 in 38 special with very good results.
bgfire
Thanks for the advice, john. i have been looking at the AA powders, and found that a number of people like them, and have had great results. I see an order for some AA#5 in my future, I think. Thanks Bill
Rico567
I am fond of Hodgdon's Universal with the Rainier 165 gr, but my Glocks have longer barrels (a 23 and a 24). I suspect you'll be better off with your short-barrelled M27 using Clays or Titegroup, as suggested in previous posts.
