Shipping Guns

Recommended Posts

As long as you ship direct to FFL...I would not worry about disclosing to fed ex or UPS. Their policies are not laws....They get too ridiculous in my opinion.

Some FFL's get fussy about end user shipping to them. Some prefer FFL to FFL...my local guy said theirs no requirement for FFL to FFL

From the ATF website:

Q: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.

I would check what an FFL charges to ship as it's cheaper to ship USPS priority mail than it is to ship ups or fedex. As far as receiving from an individual legally a dealer can but I would ask first as many will only accept from a dealer an will not provide a copy of an FFL to an individual as that is only required for a dealer to dealer. An individual can go to the ATF ez check and ask them for their numbers to verify the license. It is probibally easier and cheaper to have an ffl ship it

It is easier (usually) and cheaper (most of the time) to have an FFL ship it. The OP seemed more interested in shipping as an individual and that is more complex, hence the long discussion here.
