mwx40x40
Probably been asked before but could not find what I was looking for. First question, can data for WST be used for 452A? I would like to use it 40sw w/ 180 Bayou's. Any proven 452A loads for this combo?
Guest
Load data for ww452AA is hard to come by these days and I don't have any info for it in a .40. Used to use a lot of it at 5.7gr in a .45 with 180gr SWC and it made about 180 pf. You could look at the following data from the Speer manual and compare it to WST and 231 and probably figure out a good start point and work up a load for .40. I still have about 3 pounds of it and have been using it for steel challenge loads in a .38 super. It is a good powder, and in case you didn't know be aware that it is inversely temperature sensitive. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Winchester 452AA Loads from the Speer #11 manual:Caliber Bullet Charge Vel..32 S&W Long 90 Speer HBWC 1.6 6741.8 737.32 H&R Magnum 100 Speer Plinker 4.4 9534.9 99090 Speer HBWC 2.3 7802.5 811.32-20 WCF 100 Speer Plinker 7.3 14248.1 1476110 Speer Varminter 6.8 13137.4 1339110 Speer Spire Point, Round Nose 6.8 12467.4 1295130 Speer HP, Flat Nose 6.4 11597.1 1217.380 ACP 95 Speer TMJ 3.3 9133.7 10169mm Parabellum 124 Speer TMJ 4.9 10645.4 1142.38 Super 95 Speer TMJ 6.5 13167.2 1336.38 S&W 110 Speer HP 3.0 7963.3 857125 Speer SP, HP 3.1 7923.4 844148 Speer BBWC 2.9 703Crimped in top lube groove 3.2 736.38 Special 148 Speer BBWC 2.8 7723.1 802148 Speer HBWC 2.8 7433.1 787158 Speer LSWC, LRN, LSWC HP 3.6 7634.0 842110 Speer HP 4.5 934+P 5.4 1072.357 Magnum 148 Speer HBWC 3.0 7583.3 812158 Speer LSWC, LSWC HP 5.0 9605.5 1004110 Speer HP 12.5 143413.5 1488125 Speer SP, HP 10.5 126111.5 1349.41 Magnum 220 Speer SP 8.3 10049.3 1052.44 Mag. 240 Speer SP, HP, TMJ 12.5 119713.5 1205.45 Auto Rim 200 Speer LSWC 3.5 6654.0 743.45 ACP 185 Speer TMJ Match 4.3 7574.7 819200 Speer TMJ Combat 5.0 8415.5 898200 Speer HP 5.0 8685.5 916230 Speer TMJ 4.7 7605.3 825260 Speer HP 4.6 7125.0 786 Note: Per Handloader’s Digest 1994, 13th. outerlimits
still have about 12 lbs of 452AA. luv the stuff for lite loads in 38 supercomp. the chrono data i have from many years show WST pretty close. in 38 super, WST is a tad slower with the exact same amount of powder. this using 115-125 gr bullets. have some load data for 45acp, but none in 40. rdinga
Nothing in .40 but my old match load was 5.2 grains of WSt and 200 swc in .45. Great powder!
gordonm1
I found some at a gun show but only loaded 200g lead in 45 ACP. I found a great target load. Then Pat's had solo 1000 and Scott 453 so I got a bunch. I load the scot 453 with cast 180g in .40 to 1.135 OAL. It started getting snappy and changed gears at 4.5 grains and it was still not major for me in my 4.5 inch SIG barrel(a lot like WST). Your powder is different so be careful. You might be able to get to major more safely if you can load longer OAL. Edited August 6, 2014 by gordonm1
Powder Finger
From a Winchester loading booklet The new Winchester Super Target (supersedes 452AA) The new Winchester Super Field (supersedes 473AA) At the time Winchester Super Lite was brand new. There were only loads for the new powders but as I recall we used 452AA for steel loads and 473AA could make major with heavier bullets (38 Super)
