Damn they ran out fast, they were in stock yesterday. I was going to get one but wanted to check on the comp options first, I have no problem threading it and cutting it down but which comp to fit can be an issue what do you suggest John?

Thanks for the offer to help!

With my eyes I prefer a red dot for shooting steel. So if I'm going to get a red dot I might as well go all the way and add a comp as well!

Yes, I hand load. I'm currently using 147gr, 3.1 TG for a sub PF of 118.

I'm using it for steel so there is no min PF.

From what I understand about comps, I will need to work up a new stronger load to let the "comp do the work".

Here's the scoop on CZ barrels:

The 75B, 75B SA, and the P01 (there may be others I'm unaware of) utilize a barrel with an OD of 12.75mm (0.502") for 9mm, but a barrel with an OD of 14mm (0.551") for .40.

The SP01, Shadow, Champion, Tactical Sports and Czechmate all use the same OD barrel for 9mm and .40 (14mm). The factory thread for the Czechmate and Champion is M14x1.

On the Tanfoglio side, the small frame pistols use 14mm barrels and the large frame pistols use 15mm barrels. The factory thread for small frame is M14x0.75 and the M15x0.75 for large frame.

There are some factory comps floating around for small frame Witnesses and occasionally CZ USA will offer Czechmate comps for sale. I have my own taps/dies and thread my own barrels, but it seems to me there are very few gunsmiths who cut metric threads.

I have also used comps designed for airsoft pistols with some success although the aluminum is pretty soft, so they might not last for tens of thousands of rounds. Also, the ports are pretty small so they're pretty harsh with major loads :surprise:

I ended up with a few comps from the Springfield custom shop which were threaded 0.540"x40 and since that was a proprietary thread I welded up the hole, re drilled it and tapped it with a M14x0.75 thread to match my barrels; that's an option, but not a very easy one :eatdrink:

I've also bought the dies for the two 2011 threads: 0.575"x40 (cone) and 0.685"x40 (bull) with the intention of adapting some of the popular comps to our CZs (Brazos ThunderComp II, Dawson's Awesome Comp) so stay tuned for updates

I have many Open guns and 2-3 times as many comps so I haven't put too many rounds through any of them. I actually gave that comp away, but I have two more I plan to experiment with. I'm thinking I might get one all set up, then loan it out to get some rounds through it for testing.
