Loves2Shoot
We are welcoming the XDM 9/40 OPEN magwell to the world. This was specifically designed for USPSA Open, Limited, and L10 divisions. This baby is HUGE. The brass version is 6 oz, aluminum 2 oz. Chuckie45
Is this magwell compatable with the pistol gear 170 mag extention?
Loves2Shoot
You have to remove a little material from their bolt on plate and it will work.
Loves2Shoot
Christine Springer field testing the brass version. She loves how it softens the recoil, and it is nearly impossible to miss the opening.

Lastly, you need to stop making such fine products. You're making me want to build more toys that I don't need.
Loves2Shoot
She is the prettier half of SP. We need to keeping making new goodies so we can pay for the machining shop
Iggy42
How do these compare to the most well know magwell out there from Dawson? In both weight and size Also can the brass version be Cerakoted or IonBonded?
Loves2Shoot
The ESP is similar in opening size as the Dawson, but has less material on the front so that the mag well doesn't get in the way as much. The Open is much much larger. Cerakote says brass is not a problem, but we've only done it a few times so far. Our is much simple to mount if you need to modify the backstrap, or you can order one already modified.
d_striker
Do these have to be epoxied to the frame like the CC magwell?
Loves2Shoot
Not at all, they are easily removed and there is no modification to the frame, only the backstrap
d_striker
I have had a Pistol Gear aluminum magwell for a few years. The inside is pretty beat up and gouged from repeated mag insertions. Would brass be more resistant to abrasion from the magazine lips?
Loves2Shoot
Yes, the brass we use is more durable than aluminum.
d_striker
I probably should have asked before ordering one, but do you know if Canyon Creek base pads work with this magwell?
Loves2Shoot
We have been told they work, but I haven't tried it myself.
d_striker
We have been told they work, but I haven't tried it myself. Thanks for the fast delivery. I put it on today and am very impressed with the design, fit, and finish. This is leaps and bounds better than the Pistol Gear Unlimited magwell I've been using for a few years. I'm happy to report that it works fine with Canyon Creek 140mm base pads and also Arredondo's.

Loves2Shoot
Are there any plans to make some of these to fit the standard Xd ? Demand for XD magwells is very small. I'd like to make one, but it is not high on the list right now.
Rick88
I understand, but there are many of us that prefer the feel of the XD over the XDM. I would order one right now if you had it :-)

d_striker
The weight of the brass is awesome. It makes me wonder though....Would it be possible to machine a magwell out of TC? I turned a TC mill bit a while back for a weight in the stock guide rod but have no clue if TC is machinable.
