barrysuperhawk
So, I am changing up my equipment a bit, and one thing I am doing is looking for a new front sight for a AR pattern 308. I am 90% sure that I want to give a Lyman 93 globe a try, but I am unsure on how I want to attach it to the barrel. Plan A is a LIPSKI - COMPETITION BARREL BAND and then the sight, but I am a little worried about how well it will hold up going into ports and dump barrels. The second option is the JP base on a standard railed gas block. This has the benefit or seeming beefier, but also has more moving parts/points of failure. So, does anyone have any better ideas or opinions on these? http://www.brownells.com/userdocs/skus/p_527000003_1.jpg Plus a Lyman 93 globe or http://media.midwayusa.com/productimages/440x330/Primary/254/254259.jpg PLUS http://www.gprifle.se/shop/35688/art88/h8196/16818196-origpic-fc8650.jpg Stupid board won't let me post images, so you get links... J.Schmitt
Barry, I never had the JP mount move, once together, locktight it on the screws and all over the flat pieces. Jay
RiggerJJ
I have both, and both work well and survive abandonments. They are equally a royal pia to zero elevation with a globe vs a standard a2 adjustable post, very worth it imho. But I use a non-standard reticle in the globe. co-exprs
I use an Armalite clamp on FSB on all my rifles. It's $45 and works great. Not as pretty as the JP, but it's all that's really needed, unless you want to take advantage of the alternate reticle options available for the Lyman globe. A simple post suits me fine. barrysuperhawk
One if the reasons I was looking at the globe sight is the ability to swap front sights on the fly, fine post for range, but something thicker or one of the odd ones [circle, grid etc] maybe for the burner stages under 100. I mostly started looking at the globes because some of my more accurate competitors use them.
ShootfastRunfaster
I tried a globe, but it was to restrictive and dark for me to make fast transitions. I use a standard type front post. The post is an Armalite NM. I would make sure that the changing out of front sight inserts does not fall under the rules about modifications to a rifle during a match. You would be removing a sight and replacing it with another and that seems akin to changing out magazine extensions on a shotgun in between stages.
