I have hp38, sr 4756 and was wondering if anyone here has a good conservative recipie and c.o.a.l for these powders ?

if not what are some suggestions I have heard longshot/ pistol powder of 4.4 grs and c.o.a.l of 1.120 but never used either of those.

Normaly I just do 124 gr with hp38, universal clays or titegroup but 147's are kinda new to me. Now I have loaded 147 truncated ones with 3.5 gr's of universal clays and had good luck but can't find universal clays right now.

Any help will be appreciated.

I use the hp38 (WW231) and it is a nice soft load.

Your OAL has nothing to do with which powder you use - only YOUR gun/mags.

I'm at 1.13" with MG 147's.

Hi-power what amount of powder you putting in the brass ? Thanks for the info to sir.

 3.6 grains got me a PF of 132. Your results may vary:)

Thanks will try 3.2.

One other question I know I am a rookie but what is the abbreviation "pf" refer to ?

I know I should know that but all I ever load is 124 gr rn 9mm and normally have my recipe that works.

If you're shooting actions sports (USPSA, IPSC or IDPA), you need to load to a

certain power factor (125 for minor), so instead of saying that we loaded a

125 grain bullet to 1,000 fps, we say we loaded it to PF125 ...

Sorry about the confusion.

Sounds like you may not be concerned about PF, but you should be concerned

re: velocity, for safety's sake if nothing else. You need a chrono ...

Yes sir your right I do some IDPA and thanks.

I assume a 1.130 c.o.a.l will work to for that load and is closse to what you are doing.

My M&P eats everything.

Hodgdon online has recipes for 4756 w/147gr XTP

IMR
SR 4756
.355"
1.100"
3.0
668
21,800 PSI
3.6
834
29,900 PSI

http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistol

Hornady 8th Edition shows 3.4gr/750FPS min and 4.5gr/950FPS max with their 147gr variants (HP/XTP @ 1.10" or FMJ-RN-BT@1.165")..so I'm inclined to believe you can get to Minor PF..but a chrono would help.

For OAL, better to check once and confirm, then load up a batch and be surprised:
