XDM Mag release spring Stiff

Thanks Sarge!

Yes, I've seen many of the PRP videos and they very helpful.

Myself, being new to the XDm platform, do see a very quick response from Springer and really appreciate their support and products offerings.

Life is good with companies like these developing so many products to chose from.

Sarge. FYI we have videos also (we are working on new HD videos), more product offerings, give away tens of thousand of dollars to support matches every year (we have so many requests it is hard to get to them all but we are working on it), and have a dedicated phone support specialist and e-mail response is within 24 hours during the week. We do not offer the longer magazine release anymore because we had too many complaints of it being too long, but keep your eyes open, we'll have more styles quite soon. ;) If you have had difficulties getting in touch with us, please PM me about when it was and your method of contact, as I am very serious about that issue in particular. I have not been on the forums much in awhile, as I've been working to improve my programming skills so we can release more high quality products this year than ever before. I don't like to use reduced power spring to do things you can do mechanically, so we won't be releasing a reduced power mag release spring. HINT if you mant to make the releasing of mags easier, work on the nothc of your mags. Polishing the catch can greatly improve the ease of magazine release if it is sticky.

I haven't played around with that, but it makes a lot of sense considering the finish on the catch isn't exactly pristine

Well, I'm sure glad I purchased your extended magazine release(s) a couple of years ago, Scott! They work just fine for me

This.

I also slightly (and I do mean slightly) adjusted the original spring so it applies less tension on the catch.

Well I have bigger worries. I managed to pop the pin all the way out then found a YouTube video that said whatever you do, don't pop that pin all the way out. Ugh

I recall saying that. Don't fret, you can get it back in with either a slave pin, or by installing with the short end of the spring sticking up through the hole in the middle of the latch, and then install the keeper pin. Once it is re-assembled, you can use a small screw driver (making a notch in the middle of it helps) and you can pry the short leg through the hole and put it back under tension. Bring a big can of patience, it can take a bit. Best of luck and let me know if I can help.

Time to set things straight. I never meant to imply that Springer Precision was inferior to PRP. I simply picked one over the other when I needed a few parts and found the PRP website seemed a little easier for me to get around on and they were very responsive at answering emails and helping me get things right. In truth, once I got that kind of customer service I saw no need to look at Springer.

Then when I screwed up and pulled my mag catch all the way out, even though there are ample warnings out there not to, Scott Springer willingly offered me advice on how to get it back together even though I did not buy the parts from him. That may seem minor to some but I see it as a class act on his part. Using his expert advice I got it back together in short order.

As far as I can tell there are a couple of great companies out there supporting the XD platform. But next time I need something for mine I'll be sure to look much, much harder at Springer Precision.

Thanks again Scott!

Kevin

Powder River Precision sells a lighter mag release spring that improved the problem considerably. A little Dremel polish job on top of the new spring turned out great. Word of warning, I found the spring to be a pain to install but worth the effort.

I popped my pin all the way out also. I tried the method of leaving the short end of spring sticking through the hole in the latch and tried to pry it through with the screwdriver but had no luck. I ended up holding the right side of the latch in place with my punch and then taking an extra long pair of needle nose and cramming the spring down in there until I could slide my punch through the spring. Then I installed the pin without an issue from the other side. While I had it apart I polished the latch and tried to tweak the spring a little. I installed the oversized extended release and it seems to work great now.

Hi Scott,

I'm one of those who found your extended releases too long. Had to remove them one at a time(replace with stock) and have my gunsmith turn them down a small amount, like .025 or something so we wouldn't get DQ'd by a equipment Nazi at the first sanctioned IDPA match we shot after the 2013 rules change. Unfortunately, just that little bit DID make a difference in having to change your grip when releasing the mags for those of us with short stubby thumbs and small hands. It's a stipid rule having zero to do with whether the pistol can be concealed well or not. BUT....we could have magwells!
