DIY Tanfoglio/EAA coating or have a pro do it

Hey there,

So I've been seeing some real nice custom coated guns here, unfortunatly they are giving me some bad ideas lol. So basically I've now got most of the stuff for my open gun done minus a few things, there is one major thing however. The gun would really look a lot better if I could get it recoated in something real nice. The frame has years of wear marks from other owner, the slide has been recoated at some point but some possible future slide lightening would want me to color match the top and bottom.

I am not a big fan of parkerizing that much, it never feels tough enough for me. I kinda feel the same for spray bomb methods unless they come with a heavy duty finishing process.

So I have some questions on the topic.

What would an EAA Witness frame be made of and how might it effect the coating process?

What is the best DIY coating process?

Has anyone ever coated there own gun and can you share your experiance?

What is the preping precess?

And finally should I just have a pro do the work?

P.S. if anyone lives in or knows anyone in Canada/Ontario that does good work please let me know.

Cheers,

Evan

I have seen a few guns that have been ion bonded and they look amazing. I also see there is an Ionbond close to me here in Toronto. Ill have to call them onMonday and find out more info and prices, also there is always the issue of the stupid transport laws here and if they will even take my gun. Ill follow up.

Any experiences with this process or company with people here?

Cheers,

Evan

Check the company Ionbond, there are a few locations around the US and they have a firearm coating section on there site.

As for TiN coating I found these guys who seem to know what there doing, but there only in the US so it does me no good.

http://titaniumgun.com/

Both these places have no pricing listed.

Thanks! Man that much gold... :-) There are few shops doing the black coating, I belive the process is similar and just the thickness can vary. They have been using this sort of coating on drilling bits for a long time. It is a good coating.
