Converting SV limited gun to open

I have an SV sight-tracker that I'm trying to find a use for. Been kicking around the idea of replacing the breech face and barrel, and adding a comp and sight.

Has anyone ever converted an SV, if so, how did it go?

Why no just build an open top-end. This way you can interchange top-ends.

I would think thats the best bet too. Maybe try a slide mounted optic so you wont even have to mess with the frame..

I'd just replace the breach face if the SV slide is ok, fits tight?. . Asume you had a 40S&W?..... So you would need a new aftec,.355 barrel reamed to what ever caliber you decide to shoot ,comp, C-More and mount. At least one 170 mm mag. I'd go with 9mm (both major and minor). As for side mount or top mount of the "dot", either, is fine...I'm not in favor of the SLIDE mount dot.....(there is a reason you don't see that many of them). To me, they take an awful beating.

Smart money says sell the limited gun, buy an open gun. Now if you are not sure you are an open shooter then keep it buy and open gun then once you've established which it is you want to shoot sell one. I think it is a crying shame to mess up a perfectly good Limited Gun, and that is from an open shooter.

I love buying and selling guns! A used gun is a used gun so if you market it better than the guy you bought it from, you should at least get your money back.

I concur with cocobolo. While it can be done, it will never be the same as a new gun.
