SiG Lady
EXCELLENT. That's the kind of thing I saw virtually every night from my little farmhouse location in Centralia, Washington when I lived there. I, too, took pics.
diehli
This one happened when rounding the bend on Angeles Crest Highway. Luckily I was coming back from the dragstrip in Palmdale, CA from an assignment and had the digicam with me. It's been my desktop for the last 2+ years... on the PC I had and now on my laptop. Scooter
Eric, not saying that you have a bad picture, but have you thought about using Photoshop to do a minor tweak and level the horizon?
SiG Lady
Hey!... maybe that was part of his reality at the time!... (ERIC, if you actually want me to 'fix' it for you, I can......)
Detlef
are those new high-cap mags near the bottom, in the sand? --Detlef
SiG Lady
Well, for all of you getting seasick from the tilted sunset image, here's a modified version of it... As well as the fact that there happen to be little boats out there on the water...... Nice place.
joshua
Hmmm... maybe when eric took the pix he was a little tilted also If I was in a place like that you know I'll be getting tilted with margaritas or rum/coke.
SiG Lady
My point exactly. I hope it was fun.
mcoliver
I didn't notice the tilting until you guys called it. But just the same the pics are awsome! How do you guys manage to take pics like this? I'm guessing I need to go beyond my cam's Auto function, huh?
SiG Lady
mcoliver, it's just TIMING. All about THE MOMENT. A still photographer sits and waits like a stalking cat for... THE MOMENT.
diehli
Unless you happen to drive into it with a digital camera.
SiG Lady
Yeh... THAT can happen, TOO.
Scooter
Here's my sunset picture taken out at Point Reyes, California. It's not that hard to take a sunset picture with the ocean. You just have to be on the west coast of anywhere about 30 minutes before sunset. Set your camera for spot metering and meter off the sky but not directly at the sun. This will under expose the ground. If you meter off the ground, then the sky will be too bright, but the ground will be properly exposed. You usually don't want that. If you don't have the ocean anywhere close, then you just have to get lucky. You can cheat if there's clouds by using a color filter. Or you can start a forest fire. The combination of the smoke and the light towards sunset gives really nice colors.
ERIC
Wow, didn't know we had photo critics here too. It's all good. Constructive criticism never hurts. I'll make sure to fix the tilt (drunken stance) before making another print. The picture was taken off the shore of Kona in Nov. 2000. I'm way over due for another Hawaii trip. Neil Beverley
I love the pictures you guys have posted. I love sunsets! One of my favourites below. Unfortunately the print I've had to scan is about 24 years old and it shows some discolouration.
Skywalker
I like all the sunset photos, but I'd like to celebrate a new dawn: the dawn of an era with no more silly restrictions. For this reason I'm gonna post a shot of yesterday dawn on the lake I live by:
Patrick Sweeney
Here's a sunset I shot while cruising back from Burano. In a fit of unique thought, I call it "Sunset over Murano." (For those who haven't been, M & B are different islands in the Venetian lagoon.)
Skywalker
Had to post it here, because yesterday's sunset (after the thunderstorm) was really intriguing, and it's the same place of the previous dawn.
Neil Beverley
Luca, Nice picture. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time!
Skywalker
Neil, yeah, at the end of the rainbow, to pick up the treasure pot... But, you know, whenever you'll decide to come and see the Lago Maggiore (Major Lake) area...
mcoliver
And I seem to be in the wrong place everytime. I'm very eager to test out my new cam and try to capture these same things. But I guess Siggy's right. I may actually have to sit somewhare and wait for it.
SiG Lady
Won a small local contest with this one in 1993. Location: Centralia, Washington--right outside my front yard. Was like this most every night (except when it rained)... (excuse the graininess. It's a print and the scanner is getting old...)
