Independence Day Action Rifle Match - July 4th 2012

Recommended Posts

I am pleased to announce that the Independence Day Action Rifle Match is coming back to Rio Salado Sportsman's Club for 2012. This, the 7th annual match, will be held on Wednesday July 4th, with registration opening at 6:30am and first rounds downrange at 7am sharp. Shooters will be divided into squads, so we expect to be finished in a timely manner - probably by 1pm or so.

The match will comprise 4 challenging run-n-gun rifle-only stages, with targets ranging anywhere from 1 yard to over 300 yards. After the match, a prize table will be distributed by random draw. For newer shooters, this match is a great venue to dip your toe in the 3-Gun waters. Most military-style semi-auto centerfire rifles are suitable - just bring a few spare magazines, plenty of ammo, and a safe and positive attitude. Here is a photo from last year:

The match ammo count is expected to be around 120 rounds, but we suggest you bring at least double this amount. Please note that Rio Salado prohibits all steel-containing projectiles (such as military M855 "green tip", some Wolf ammo etc.), so please check your projectiles with a magnet before the match to avoid disappointment. Steel cartridge cases are OK.

The match will be run under a rifle-only version of IMA-SMM3G rules, with time-plus scoring. Download a copy of the match rules to learn more about the equipment divisions, scoring and safety protocols. If you have any questions, feel free to post them here or contact me directly via IM or email.

As in previous years, this match is being run as a benefit for the Arizona Citizens Defense League. The match fee of $45 includes a donation to AzCDL, in return for which you will receive a free 1-year membership. Entries are being accepted through the AzCDL on-line store only. Pre-entry is required, and traditionally this match fills up quickly. We are capping the match at 70 shooters, so be sure to get your entries in early!

PS: By happy coincidence, Rio Salado will also be running a separate Tactical Shotgun/Pistol Caliber Carbine match the same day, but later in the afternoon (4pm start). Those who survive the rifle match will be welcome to participate in this match also (just enter on the day as usual - match fee $14/$16). Be sure to bring your shotgun or pistol caliber carbine along just in case the mood takes you :D

I just registered.

Will there be divisions or is it "open/run what you brung"?

Kalani

I'm glad you can make it.

Yup - regular IMA-SMM3G divisions. There is a specially-written rules document on the AzCDL website if you want to double-check compliance. You can declare your chosen equipment division on the day of the match... as long as you don't choose Tactical Limited division, that is :roflol:
