xHEADSHOTx
Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm looking for confirmation on OAL's that have worked for other forum members. Pistol: S&W M&P9 Pro Projectiles: Zero 9mm 125gr JHP (Conical - #136) Powders: Winchester 231/Hodgdon HP-38 Any suggestions or opinions are greatly appreciated. Hi-Power Jack
I'm looking for OAL's for a S&W M&P9 Pro xHead, best approach is to start at 1.17" in a cartridge case with no primer or powder, and see if the round will fit into YOUR mag and your chamber. Probably not - probably too long. No problem, put the round back into your reloader and lower it a little bit (1.16") and try again ... Repeat until the round feeds thru your mag and fits into your chamber. Back it off just a little bit more - and you should have The Best OAL for Your Gun. The WW231 will not even fill the case half way - so you'll have plenty room to seat the bullet without compressing the powder
xHEADSHOTx
Thanks for the reply. I guess based on the OAL that the mag and chamber provide me with I'll then load the appropriate powder charge with pressures in mind.
reptoid
Just for reference: I've shot alot of that bullet using 4.2 grs. HP 38, Win SP primer, loaded @ 1.125". It's accurate out of my Glock 34 and my XD9 Tac and gives 1050 FPS (131PF). But you should always chamber check the length for any new bullet or different pistol as Jack said above. DWFAN
Thats a good method, but may not yield the most accurate load. Youll just have to test in your gun. Most likely any length as long as it fits and functions will be accurate enough for plinking/uspsa/idpa. (1.120 was most accurate at 50 yards in my Bianchi gun)

RH45
1.165" OAL fits in my M&P mags with no problem, but, depending on the profile of the bullet, may, or, may not be too long for YOUR chamber. I was originally loading at 1.12", with a Zero, 125 grain, .356, jhp, and getting about 2" groups at 25 yards, but, with the longer OAL, the groups have shrunk to a little over an inch at 25 yards. jdesro
I'm at about the same OAL with this bullet as a couple other posters here - 1.125". This bullet was touching the rifling in my chamber at 1.135". I'm using 4.3gr of 231, and has been a very accurate and reliable load in my pistol.
