ported or comp barrels

So whats the difference between ported barrels and barrels that have comps on them

Distance and weight. A ported barrel usually means the "holes" are closer to the chamber than the holes of a comp, plus a comp usually means weight added to the end of the barrel. The main point of all this is that each gun must be tuned to work with its particular construction and loads developed to match that construction.

Other than that, its all personal preference.

Most ported barrels also have comps on them. The barrels ports help with flatness.

Also, when you have ported barrels, it's harder to make power factor since the bullet hasn't had time to get to the full potential and the gases are already being released. There is also "popple" holes, usually used with comps. These popple holes are small holes drilled in the barrel and slide to help with flattening out the muzzle rise. That the whole point with comps, ports, popples, etc...to keep the gun shooting flat.

I am still looking for a load that will flatten a G24C ported barrel but I think I really need a comp on it.

In my experience the glock barrels that have ports in them don't do a lot to flatten the gun. Don't think they are enough to help much. That is just my 2 cents
