But I tried New Belgium's Ranger IPA and every sip is a mouthful of hoppy goodness! Clean finish despite all the hops.....not bitter......HOPPY like it should be.

Reds and Lagers will remain some of my favorites.

Victory "Hop Devil". The name describes the taste. Victory brewery is in PA.

Also Great Lakes "Burning River" IPA. Not sure where the brewery is located, probably Western NY. Our local tavern keeps a case on hand. Only a couple of the patrons (including me) drink it and last Friday evening the owner told me: " . . .out of this stuff until Monday, you'll have to come back". Oh, I'll be back.

The more local the beer the better for me

We have 2 good local micro brewery's:

http://www.bozemanbrewing.com/bozoneBeer.htm Amber is very good, but they only sell in kegs

http://www.madisonriverbrewing.com/Beers.aspx The Copper John Scotch Ale and Hopper Pale Ale are both very good - they have it at our CostCo, but I doubt they distribute very far

In Missoula: http://www.bigskybrew.com/Our_Beers Shipped all over

More national, I've always liked http://www.alaskanbeer.com/amber.html

Really - there are just so many good beers out there.. :)

We have a local brewery in my town that makes pretty good beer (High Desert Brewery), but about 2hrs away in a neighboring town, they have a red lager that is some of the best beer I've ever tasted!! Most red lagers I've tried are lacking in the flavor department period, this one just has a perfect balance.

The brewery is Socorro Springs Brewery in Socorro, NM and they just call it the "Red Lager". Seems like they usually have it on tap, so it must be popular. They don't bottle (to my knowledge), so you have to visit and drink it there or take a growler/keg home. Next time you're taking I-25 through New Mexico, stop and have one for lunch.....they serve food too.

Huh! Finally something I know about

Been to the New belgium Brewery many times as it's located 4 blocks from my brother's house in Fort Collins, CO. It's an ultra modern brewery. Interesting place as the owner is far into mountain biking and I have been to the (Pro) races held on the course which is on brewery property. They don't make a beer that is not to my liking and I highly suggest you go here to get more info on the many beers they do make. They even have a flavor wheel that describes the different beers attributes. If the other flavors are available go for it.

As for local NYS beers that I quite like, Saranac tastes pretty damn good. Hard to believe it's (the old Matt's) brewery and made where they used to make Utica Club.

My favorite is the "Lake Effect Lager"
