ScottyPotty
I bought some 55gn FMJ (M193) and some BLC2 since H335 was out of stock. My book say starting load 23gns - max is 26.5 for a 55grain bullet Something doesnt seem right...... at 25gr I get 2300 FPS out of 14.5" barrel at 26gr I get 2550 FPS out of 14.5" barrel but the primers look fairly flat. CCI #400 Seems pretty slow for a 55gn FMJ Does this seem right to you guys that have used BLC2? I am NOT trying to duplicate M193 but would like to have a decent load with approx 2800-3000 FPS. kamikaze1a
I get just over 2700 with 27.2 with a 16" barrel. Your shorter barrel probably bringing down the velocity a little, but not much... What COAL? Crimping? And brass? Loose primer fit could cause primers to appear flattened...

My 18" gets 2892 fps with 27.1gr using Federal FMJBT 55gr, and at that load it groups well. The max is 28.1 but beware that you may get some cases that are not up to the max, I had a couple stick in the chamber and dropped back down. Warhammer4k
I've reloaded with BL-C(2) plenty. Good stuff. Here's some of my chrono data, all based on 10-shot strings with 55 gr. FMJ boattail bullets (mostly Hornady). My .223 rifles all have 20" barrels, so I get more velocity than you would. 27.5 gr. BL-C(2) COAL=2.203-2.206 in. Average velocity, approx. 10' from muzzle of a 20" barrel: 3083 ft/s Std. dev = 15.3 ft/s 26.0 gr. BL-C(2) COAL=2.200-2.212 in. Average velocity, approx. 10' from muzzle of a 20" barrel: 2966 ft/s Std. dev = 23.4 25.1 gr. BL-C(2) COAL=2.203-2.206 in. Average velocity, approx. 10' from muzzle of a 20" barrel: 2794 ft/s Std. dev = 19.5 ft/s Hope this helps.

JOHNNYGLOCK
anybody ever use BL-C(2) with diffrent primers to see what the changes are? In the Speer manual they say to use mag spark plugs (CCI 450/CCI #41) with bl-c(2) , H335, W748. I switched from a CCI 400 to a #41 with W748 (26.5gr) and noticed nice shrinking of group size at 200. I have my first can of bl-c(2) and I will work up my load with #41's and when the max load is obtained I will go back to 400's and chrono both to see what changes are. mike4045
Primers have not made much difference. I get a change of about 15 fps avg. I do lose about 300 fps between the 16" and 20" gun. My 16" gun does right at 2700 fps with 27 grains of BLC-2. I have decided to run only Fed match rifle primers.
kamikaze1a
Just a thought...did you chrono on more than one occasion or more than one chrono? Might be your chrono off or wasn't level. Chrono not level with bullet path will read slow...

gm iprod
Hodgdon MAnual #26 Page 527. These laods are specifically for Silhouette and are loaded in 14" barrel. 55gr 28.0gr H414 = 2609fps 27.5gr H380 = 2614fps 25gr BLC2 = 2512fps 24.5gr H335 = 2494 23.5gr H4895 = 2554fps This is old data and I find current data is significantly hotter laods than this and I get about 150fps more than they say in th eold manual. But I am using 2grains more powder. Hodgdon also load at 2.200" for short barrels. They have data in the Pistol Section for 223Rem I would say based on your info I think you are getting pretty much what you should be at the load levels your are using. I have two 14.5" guns and using BLC2 I get pretty much bang on what the Hodgdon manual says I should be getting for the loads I am using. There is a minor variation between the Buchmaster and the DPMS of about 30fps across a bunch of loads in favour of the Bushy. The DPMS is more accurate if I back of 1/2gr in either Varget of BLC2. That drops me another 30fps behind the Bushmaster. My better load for BLC2 is 27.0gr even for $2700fps. I use Federal Match Primers for all my 223 loading at present. I have got tens of 1000's of them when they were cheaper than they are now and more easily available. Work up and keep an eye on pressure. Varget will give the maximum velocity across the board if that is your thing. The new IMR8028XBR is suppossed to be pretty slick, but from what I have heard the longer the barrel the better that works. Benchmark is very good as well, but more accurate just off maximum.
