tatu_ph
Good Day! I have a Colt 1911 .45 ACP 80 Series that gets light primer strikes so I got myself a M2I extended firing pin. When I got it I noticed that the tip is thinner than my original firing pin so I installed it and it wobbles a bit inside the FP hole when you push on the rear (Where the hammer hits)side. Also when the FP is flushed with the FP stop like when the hammer is down, a small part about 1 mm sticks out of the FP hole (Primer side). Is this ok? I haven't tried it out yet and we don't have Gunsmiths here that are experienced with putting extended firing pins on 1911. Thanks for your time. yoshidaex
The majority of extended length FP are for slides with small diameter FP holes. One of the benefits Of the extended length FP is to prevent primer flow. You may not see primer flow since the 45acp is a low pressure round but you may notice off center hits on the primer. EkuJustice
The Mclean is for the smaller diameter hole ie 40cal, 9mm
soaringf22
they make firing pins with different size diameters. take calipers and measure you firing pin hole, then order the size accordingly. EGW makes them from .068"-.093"
tatu_ph
Any ideas on what would happen if I shoot the gun with a smaller FP?
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Stop and remove that firing pin if it is sticking out of the breach face when the hammer is down Also your pistol is a series 80 not a series 70 which is what you have with the new firing pin. You will need a 45acp firing pin for a series 80 slide. Do not fire that pistol with the small diameter firing pin. Thanks, Eric
EkuJustice
+1 on getting the FP out of the gun. If your having light strikes, have you tried replacing the Mainspring with a fresh 19 pounder? Your gun right now is not safe and is looking to possibly slamfire with the pin sticking out like it is
tatu_ph
I tried the gun for a few rounds, it shot ok but I still decided to take it out. The primers showed signs of FP skid marks.
