Looking for a good Revolver match? PSA Shootout......

Recommended Posts

I want to throw out to the Hardcore Revo shooters a match that caters to the disciples of the Roundgun.

The PSA Shootout is a now 7 stage all falling steel match that has 4 gun classes, including Stock revolver and Open revolver.

Stock revolver is set up for 6 shot guns. You must shoot 6 shots and reload. You can shoot an 8 shot, but you can't shoot more than 6 before reloading. You get penalized if you do. 625s do really well here.....

Open Revolver is just that, 6,7,8 shot guns, red dots, comps, whatever you want.

If you ever wondered where all the 38 super Revos went, most are on the east coast and are shot at this match.

www.psashootout.com

Check out the website for photos: On the photo links there are photos and some videos as well.

One gun is $50, two are $90, and so on up to four guns.

Only caveat is that this match fills up in 3 days or so.

Watch the website towards the end of the month for the application. I am sure some of the Revo shooters that attend the match will add additional information, but I wanted to let the Revo shooters that are newer and haven't heard of or experienced the match to get some information.

Hope to see you there,

DougC

I shot my 686 in Stock Revo several years, and last year I shot my 625 in Open Revo, and the 686 in Stock Revo.

Doug doesn't mention that he's consistently in the top 10 shooters in all four divisions, and that he devotes a lot of time to setting up the match each year.

The revo competition is stiff, with Dave Parker, Dave Olhasso, and Josh Lentz from USPSA being regular participants. In 2008, Jerry Miculek was there. To paraphrase the quote about Caesar, "He came, he saw, he beat our a**es."

Hi Jess.

The way the match is set up the payouts are cash, and depending on entries, we pay out to 6 places and do the Lewis class breakdown for three flights, or (classes).

You can go to match results and see the payouts behind the names on the different guns. It is wholly dependent on how many people shoot that division.

It is a good time for sure!

Thanks for the info Doug,

Love to try out that match, just the type of steel setup I like. But oh'e man what a drive. Anyway, see you at your match at least. S.... that Big Dawgs Steel leads to addiction...am I wrong here ha ha.

Take care Doug, Jess

Thats exactly my opinion. Just a little far away for me.

Match Registration opened February 2nd. If previous years are any judge, this will sell out fast.

You can shoot up to four handguns, one in each category: Open Pistol, Standard Pistol, Open Revolver, Standard Revolver. Also has a Shotgun category... bring lots of reloaders. See the website for category definitions and the registration form.

Can't sign up online. Print out application, mail it in ASAP.

Doug, hope to run into you at the match. Thanks for supporting the Revolver team at World Championships in Greece.

This is the PSA Shootout weekend!

I'm signed up for both revolver divisions on Saturday and for semi-auto pistol on Sunday afternoon. :surprise:

OK, so the revolver divisions are something I've done before [standard revo and open revo].

Standard revo will be my 625 using standard loads for USPSA major. I need the practice for Memphis and the Nationals.

And my "open" revo is going to be a 686 6-shot with 6" bbl. Nothing like shooting with a handicap. Most open revo shooters have a 7- or 8-shot with optics. So I have no illusions about being in the top 10.

I'll shoot standard pistol using the Springfield Arms XD-40 I won in Memphis last year. This will be the 3rd match I'm shooting it, which should make things interesting when I get to those 4" triangles and Texas Stars.

Hope to run into Doug Carden sometime during the weekend. He DOES have the ability to finish in the top 5... in all four divisions!

5 Pete Enis 23.77 17.66 23.71 19.60 28.35 17.18 30.07 160.34

I had the opportunity to shoot in squads including Dave Olhasso, Dave Parker, and Rob Vlastelica, and saw Josh Lentz on Sunday afternoon. Great match! Lots of credit due to Doug Carden and everyone contributing to the success of the match.

This year there were 7 stages, which Doug says allowed them to increase the match size by 100 shooters. It did make for a long day if you shot morning and afternoon. My Saturday as a shooter ran from 8:30 am shooters registration/meeting through 6:45 pm leaving the range.

There were 606 guns registered to shoot, with 603 represented in the preliminary results.

In addition to the 137 in revolver, there were 261 stock auto, 177 open auto, and 28 shotgun.
