Artsville
I have come once again to pick your brains........ I picked up some 165gr HSM plated bullets and WSPP....my buddy has some VV n350 laying around. This obviously is not what i will be running long term, but it is just for setting up the press. Problem is i can't find a decent recipe for this wild combination of components. I found this: 180gr LTC N340 4.6 OAL 1.14 - 1.18 Looking for minor pf out of and xd 4" although it really doesn't matter. Heck i may not even shoot these.... thoughts? blaster113
Here's some data from the Vihtavuori website http://www.vihtavuori-lapua.com/pdfs/Handgun-Reloading-Data-2006.pdf There's no data for a .40 165 grain plated bullet, so I would use the starting load data for the 155 grain Rainier flat point (another plated bullet) and go from there. GrumpyOne
Use info for lead bullets instead of plated. Lead and plated are virtually identical. Barring that, use info for the same profile bullet in jacketed, but back off the powder charge a few tenths and work your way up. Here's some data from the Vihtavuori website http://www.vihtavuor...g-Data-2006.pdf There's no data for a .40 165 grain plated bullet, so I would use the starting load data for the 155 grain Rainier flat point (another plated bullet) and go from there Not a terrible idea, but not good either. The profile of the bullet could be different, which could lead to a difference in OAL, which could lead to higher pressures than what was/is expected. Remember, 40 S&W is already a high pressure round, so too much difference can mean bad juju. In any case, you should only load a few, try them over your chrono, and check for pressure signs before loading up a ton of them. This is probably one of the best resources for loads on the internet: http://www.k8nd.com/ipscload.htm http://www.k8nd.com/documents/hl40sw.pdf Edited August 17, 2010 by GrumpyOne
