Joe4d
any one have any thoughts about converting one of these to 22 magnum ? Thinking about a kit gun for back country trail rides, weight is an issue but still want something long enough to hit a target at some range. snertley
I don't think this is a possibility. There is not enough steel between the chambers on the 617 to ream out to .22 Mag. On top of that the firing pin will not line up correctly for the Mag case.
Joe4d
the length of cylinder I figured would be an issue, the cylinder must be pretty thin if width is also a problem, I wouldnt think the firing pin would be an issue, as quite a few revolvers out there come with cylinders for both. I guess those position the pin to take it into acount, <aybe best route would be the Taurus magnum and replacing the snub barrel with a longer one. Tom E
maybe best route would be the Taurus magnum and replacing the snub barrel with a longer one. Or buy a S&W 648?
Joe4d
I got the 617 mixed up with the 317, was looking for something way lighter.
Toolguy
You can convert a 6 shot but not a 10 shot. On the 10 shot the rims interfere with each other unless you only load 5, every other chamber.
