M&P 9mm thmb safety

I see that the 9mm now is available with an external thumb safety. Anyone know if it is possible to install this safety on a gun that didn't come with one? If so, is it easy enough for the average guy to do? Are the parts available? Or is this a gunsmith only operation?

Gunsmith only, if it's even possible to figure out the how and the needed part numbers.. If you want to add one for some weird reason, the best route is going to be to sell your gun and buy one equipped with a safety.

The frame for the thumb safety models is different from the non safety models. You would have to machine away part of your internal frame to make it work and I would definitely not advise that.

OK, thanks for the info. I was assuming that the standard frame could take a thumb safety sInce it already has the hole in the frame that currently is filled with a little plug.

That plug is for an internal lock (i.e. one that requires a key to turn to make the pistol usable), not for the thumb safety.
