  1. Thanks for the info. I'm leaning toward working with the TG loads. I've never loaded with this powder but have heard mostly positive comments about it. I know 231 tends to be a little more snappy and always left plenty of grunge to clean up. Hope th TG is a little softer and cleaner...
  2. Just got a deal on a bulk order of 115 gr jacketed bullets. They are Speer Uni Core's. Is anybody using them? I'm looking for some load info using Tightgroup, 231, and whatever else is good for this bullet.
  3. +1 to Smitty!! I have had 550B for many years and could not be happier with it's continuing outstanding performance. It just keeps cranking out ammo year after year. I load at least 10 different calibers and have no problems with either accuracy or reliability.
  4. So, what did you do with the bigger belt? Did it have to go back or is it available? I know a guy who might be able to fit into it...
  5. I also made the August Heat match. Unfortunately for me I did have to leave early and only managed to get in three stages. Of course one of those stages was the classifier and it turned out to be about the only stage I shot halfway decent (considering the trouble everyone had with it). I agree with Flatland, it was a nice range and great stages. I can definitely see myself going back for a major match or area match. Sure was hot though...
  6. First off Jax, you are absolutely correct in calling for a DQ on both of these shooters. EXPERIENCED shooters should know better. With that said I would have to consider the following: Both of these shooters are new to USPSA and might be having their first experience shooting in an organized match. Possibly have been shooting a long time but not around a crowd of people. Is calling a DQ on a guy who stuck a loaded mag in his holstered pistol going to give him the motivation to come back next month? Probably not. At my club a situation like this would probably have been handled by taking loaded mag guy aside and explaining what he did wrong and stressing the importance of the safety rules. This would be the perfect time to provide a clear understanding of gun and ammo handling rules along with the do's and don'ts of the safety area. While safety must always be stressed I don't believe calling a new guy out in front of all the other shooters will boost his desire to come back and hang with the fellas. As for the guy breaking the 180 I think he would have been done at the point he was stopped by the RO. Again with a new shooter I could be a little more lenient about the DQ but I would have cleared and holstered the guy at that point. His lesson would have been about the 180 rule and how the could have backed up safely to engage the targets he missed. An explanation of the scoring system and how the shooter is penalized by missing targets, FTE, etc... could be discussed at this point. I guess my point is that with new shooters we must nurture them along while maintaining a safe experience for everyone. I have been fortunate enough to shoot at a well established club with a large number of experienced shooters. I have seen a lot of people come and go through the years, including myself, and realize that some of the dumb mistakes I made were grounds to confiscate my guns, run me off the range, and possibly put my picture up in the post office. Luckily I had the benefit of good guys helping me learn what is acceptable and safe. Hope this isn't too long winded but I just believe in promoting our sport and encouraging participation by making a mistake a positive learning experience that will bring a guy back for the next match...
  7. Looks like an active club with good turnout for monthly matches. Should be a good day shooting and hopefully making a few new friends.
  8. Thanks for all the info guys. I will definitely try to be there, perhaps on Friday evening to check things out. I am coming from central Missouri and plan on getting in OKC around 2:00-3:00pm. Being forced to attend a wedding in Lawton at 6:00pm Saturday evening. If I can finish the match around 2:00-2:30 I could make it to Lawton, check in at hotel and get ready for the death march ceremony in time. I think this might work!!
  9. I am thinking about staying on plaza terrace in North Oklahoma City at Quail Springs. Mapquest says about 20 minute drive to the range. I have to be in Lawton in the late afternoon. Do you think I would have time to shoot the match (couple of hours?) and make it to Lawton by late afternoon??
  10. That match north of Oklahoma City wouldn't be in Arcadia would it?? I had spotted that on the USPSA website. It looked like a good club with large turnout for matches.
  11. Any chance their will be a match in/near Lawton on Saturday or Sunday ??
  12. I experimented with the larger bin and came to the conclusion that keeping the small bin was easier to deal with the occassional "WTF" round. It happens to all of us. Ammo is stored in military cans for several reasons: ease of storage, weatherproof/moisture resistant, and durability of the container. For match day I load Dillon 50 rd boxes and conduct quality control inspection. Easier for me to keep track of round counts when loading mags.
  13. Shot this one yesterday (07-08-06) 96 points, 8.81 , HF: 10.896 Should be around 64-65% That sound about right????
  14. One day while working on a job site a group of us decided it would be interesting to check out the inside of a grain bin located on site. We discovered that the bin was about 1/3 full of soybeans. A couple of guys started climbing the interior ladder and jumping into the beans. Well, boys being boys it soon turned into who could climb the highest and then jump. Not to be out done I soon found myself about 50 feet above the beans. After jumping and achieving light speed I slammed feet first, corkscrewed up to the waist and pulled the ostrich buried iin the sand trick with my head. It took a good ten minutes to hack and cough up all the beans that were forced down my gullet. Needless to say I was declared the champion bean jumper that day. I wore the dimpled bean marks with pride on my face and forehead for the rest of the day. I WILL NOT be defending my title...
