  1. Un-researched? Have you used either of them before for .40 or 9mm minor?
  2. I have been reloading 9mm for a while now and have been using N320. I really like it alot, except for the cost. I find that it is clean, soft, and meters well. That said, I am almost out of it and need to buy some more powder. I also am going to be reloading .40 in the next few weeks and would like to keep my powders the same if I can. I see a lot of people use TiteGroup for .40, and they reccomend it to me. Is it any better/worse than N320, other than price? Also, if you prefer one over the other, please let me know why, and give the specs on your load for either .40, 9mm, or both. FYI, I use 147gr Raniers in 9mm, and I am gonna try some 185gr LaserCasts in .40. Only looking for minor right now.
  3. So are VV N320 and TG about equal as far as how fast they burn? I have been using 3.3 gr N320 under a Ranier 147GR RNFP at 1.135 making about 128-130PF. So if 3.2GR TG gets 130ish PF, it is safe to say they are about the same? I ask because I am going to start reloading .40 for my new STI and I would like to be able to use the same powder for 9mm and .40 and it seems most people are using TG.
  4. I just ordered a Blackhawk CQC, should be here by next week. I have a comp-tac for my G17 and I really like it, but after shipping and tax it came out to like $80 for just the standard paddle holster. The Blackhawk was $49 shipped for the "carbon fiber" model from MidwayUSA. I decided to try the cheaper one for my XD as I need to get one for my STI and wanted to see how they compare to the Comp-Tac... I will let you know next week. As for mag pouches... I just use Fobus cheapies.
  5. could be peening.... go to glocktalk.com and do a search for "peening". It seems to be a problem in .40 glocks but it is on the inside of the slide, not the frame.
  6. The XD has an 18lb recoil spring, so unless you have changed it for a lighter one, you will get FTE in the XD with sub 130 PF ammo. You will either need a lighter spring (which can cause the XD not to go fully into battery when you rack the slide) or more powder in the ammo. I run a 14lb (cut down 1911 govt spring) in my XD40 service and about 125-130PF ammo. It cycles perfectly, but after I holster it, I have to push on the back of the slide with my thumb to ensure it is fully in battery. Not that big of a deal, but you have to remember to do it, otherwise you will clear the holster and it will go CLICK instead of BANG.
  7. I noticed that too... need to have a few "get aquainted" range sessions before any matches with it.
  8. I have been wanting one of these for so long, and when a friend of mine decided to sell this one, I had to jump on it. I have yet to shoot USPSA, but I plan to next month... From everything I have seen and read, it looks like a blast. Man this thing is sweet...
  9. Last weekend I was asking myself the saem questions. I looked high and low for a Para, and could not find one anywhere. I am and instant gratification kind of guy, so this irkked me a little. A guy I shoot IDPA with was selling a custom STI that I can use in ESP and Limited for $1650 fairly tricked out. I pick it up Friday, and I am totally stoked. I really was trying to go the cheaper route thinking I would keep it for about a year and then upgrade to the S*I gun. But I remembered my Dad telling me when I was younger that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing right the first time.
  10. I have the 17 and I don't think I give up any advantage to a 34. I have shot a 34 and a 17, both stock, with the same ammo at the same range session. My impression was a little more "kick" or recoil from the 34, possibly cause the slide is lighter? Either way, I am happy with my 17.
  11. I too rcently started reloading. I bought a XL650 and have been reloading 9mm for IDPA, but I am buying a .40 and will be starting that this month.
  12. So given that I will only be shooting my STI in limited and not open class, I would be fine sticking with FMJ?
  13. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to using JHP over FMJ RN or FP?
  14. :looks ashamed: I sorta don't have any... Up until now, I have only loaded for 9mm, 2 different loads based on what a few guys in IDPA shoot.
  15. First, is precision delta the same as precision bullets? Second, just a little confused, but aren't your PF's backwards? I have been using WSP, is there an advantage to federal primers? Will 1.197 OAL run in a G22? Or do I need to keep those shorter? Does anyone know the PF of factory ammo such as WWB .40 target/range ammo? Does it make major, and what if any, is the difference in recoil between major PF ammo, and factory ammo? Is one hotter than the other?
  16. Yeah, I think I have solved my own problem all together... Instead of spending a little money on some 9mm SWC... I am spending a crapload of money on a STI... Gonna keep the Glock, but I will not worry about it anymore. Thanks for all your responses.
  17. So I am going to start reloading .40 in a week or so. I have been reloading 9mm for IDPA for a few months and I have a Dillon XL650. To start with, I will be shooting IDPA in ESP with a STI that I am buying. First, does the .40 use SMALL or LARGE pistol primers? Second, I need some good load data to start with. I currently have 2 different powders, and right now I am using VV N320 in my 9mm loads. The other powder I have is W231, but I am not using it right now. For IDPA, there is no advantage to shooting major, so I am just looking to stay above PF of 125, like to be closer to 130-135... Bullets... any reccomendations? Also, keep in mind, my roommate has a G22 that he will want to use these reloads for, so I think for now, to make it easier on him, I should stay away from lead bullets. OAL... What should it be, roughly, I just want a safe place to start. And preferably still allow it to work in his G22, for the time being anyways. I intend to shoot in next months USPSA match in Greenville, but I will more than likely just shoot minor as it will be my first USPSA match. If I like it (sure I will), I will worry about major later.
  18. Does anyone know of a 9mm SWC bullet preferably in 147gr? Or, is it possible to load and shoot .38 SWC from a G17? I just want to be able to see the holes better...
