  1. Guy, you may well be right about WWB not using a powder available to us. I weighed a cartridge and then broke it apart and reweighed it without the powder and it looks like it has about 5.9 grains of powder. Don't see a Winchester powder that is close to that amount of powder based on the bullet, oal, and velocity. Guess I'll start with a reduced load of my 9mm major powder and go from there.
  2. Seems the STI SteelMaster shoots great using WWB 9mm ammo but even that gets expensive. Anybody shooting a SteelMaster using their own loads rather than WWB box ammo? If so, how about sharing your info. Also, does anyone know what powder Winchester uses in their 9mm WWB ammo? Thanks
  3. Bob, what differences should a person who has been shooting one of your 5" Limited guns expect if they go to your 6" version? I assume there is slightly more weight, obviously a longer sight picture. What else would be noticable to the shooter? Thanks for helping in the decision process.
  4. I had a set of the Novak adjustables on a M&P Pro. They had a screw adjustable elevation but windage adjustment required drifting the sight. I have had a number of guns with the DP adjustable sights which are screw adjustable for both elevation and windage. I certainly prefer the DP sights and they have proven to be quite reliable.
  5. On behalf of River City Shooters, THANKS to all who endured the wretched heat (10 to 15 degrees above normal) to participate. You, the competitors are what make a match great. A special congratulations to Jimmy Reed who drove down from the Dallas area to claim the HOA. Between the HOA, division, stage, class, and drawing winners we paid back $1,480. All of you who took home that custom formulated powder some refer to as dirt, the only requirement is that you NOT bring it back with you next year. Results are posted on our web site www.rivercityshooters.org. Thanks again to the many shooters who drove some distance (Dallas, Corpus, Houston, etc) to make the match a success. I didn't envy you having to make that drive back home after such a heat soaked, draining day. Hopefully the stages and match in general gave you something to talk about to make the trip seem a little shorter going home.
  6. Likely; if not, David will still be there so you can pass it off to him if I am not there.
  7. Talked to the Match Director last night and we will have Open Squadding. So you'll be able to shoot stages in the sequence you want with whoever you want. Dedicated RO's and Scorers. Looks like we will also have an added incentive for you to win a stage - details at the shooters meeting. See ya'll on the 28th!
  8. Not too late Sean. Seems we always have a number of locals that don't preregister but they are the ones taking the chance. The reason we set 6/15 as the cutoff for sending in apps was to ensure we got them before the match (and had them pre entered into EZWIN). We'll take late apps but we don't want to have someone show up and find out their app/payment hadn't made it before the match. Hope this heat takes a break next week! No snow boots nor parkas needed for this match! GRINS
  9. I believe shooters will sign up for their squad at sign-in. We will have dedicated RO's for each stage. There will be a variety of stages (short, medium, long) but each one should be fun and challenging. By the way, there will be a BBQ lunch available for $6.00 a plate for those who do not want to bring their own lunch.
  10. You can also check the River City Shooters web site for area matches each weekend as we have a page listing the area matches - Area Matches
  11. Just got confirmation - Summer Shootout will be a LOST BRASS match. Round count will be lower this year, partially due to ammo issues (availability of primers, etc.) that many are experiencing but the stages will be fun and challenging!
  12. Assume that it is. We hadn't specifically talked about it but trying to get 90 shooters through likely dictates such. I'll check with the Match Director and post here.
  13. River City Shooters in San Antonio will be hosting their 4th annual Texas Summer Shootout June 28th. CASH BACK - 50% of all entry fees are paid back to top shooters in each class. One of a kind HOA trophy. 7 super stages, all for just $40. Get more details at the club's web site River City Shooters. Register by June 15 to ensure a spot (limited to 90 shooters).
  14. I have 2 Pro 9's, one with the adjustable Novak and one with the adjustable Dawson. The Dawson is screw adjustable for both elevation and windage while the Novak is screw adjustable for elevation but you have to move the entire sight for windage.
  15. Yep, I imagine that would have an impact on location. I'm running Grams internals and DP base pads on all but some are +1, some are +2, and couple are SNL. Besides 38SC and 9MM, I am also looking at doing some 140's in .40
  16. I am wanting to add a couple witness holes to my STI and SVI mags (140 and 170). How do you determine where to drill the holes. Does someone have patterns or measurements available?
  17. Thanks for the insight. That is why I was asking the question. Didn't want to spend the money if not worth it. I was hoping it might be a way to get the inside of the mag polished as well as the outside. I have been working on polishing a mag using the old hand method with various grits of paper - lot of work and I have 16 of them I want to do.
  18. Has anyone used the electropolishing technique to have mags polished? I have a number of STI/SVI mags that I would like to get polished and ran across Electropolishing in my searching. Any experience/help would be appreciated.
  19. Another possiblity is a Brazos Big Mouth magwell (www.brazoscustom.com). It works fine with DP pads. Has a smaller, tighter feel than the DP Ice magwell.
  20. In the past month I have received two shipments of Winchester Small Pistol primers of 35K each. I had placed an order for 35K a few months ago with Powder Valley and when after 2 months they did not have an ETA, I placed another 35K order with another vendor. I lucked out and got the 2nd order in a couple weeks. I didn't cancel the Powder Valley order and sure enough it shipped a few weeks later. No, I am not hoarding 70K of primers. Most of it (60K) I sold to local shooters at cost (including prorated shipping/hazmat). So a number of local shooters have a supply to get them thru the rest of the year. Buy in quanity to spread the shipping/hazmat cost and sell at cost to local shooters - everyone comes out ahead.
  21. This past week I was able to purchase 35K of WSP primers. With shipping and Hazmat it was around $30/1000. Don't know that I need that many but got what I could while I could. If I decide not to keep/use all of them, then they'll go to the local match and be offered to other shooters for around the $30 that I paid for them. I would rather help other shooters stay in the game than to make a one time "killing". I know one shooter who was down to his last 1000 who will definately appreciate getting his hands on enough to shoot for a few months. I don't like people hoarding but I understand the tough decision of how many to try to keep on hand to ensure you can continue to shoot. As for gougers, hang 'em all!!!
  22. If you go to BudsGuns.com, they have a list of FFL's they have on record, organized by location. You might find something there.
  23. Some time ago I added a used primer catch tube/bottle which has worked perfectly at capturing old primers but I still had the issue of new primers jumping the small chute on the 650. Finally decided to do something about it that turned out to be ultra simple. All it took was two small pieces of magnetic tape (sticky on one side) and a 3"x 1/2" strip of flashing. I attached a piece of magnetic tape on each side of the chute and then bent the flashing into a "U". It slides around the end of the chute and is held in place by the magnetic strips. No more "jumping" primers and it is easy to remove the strip to "recover" primers. Now I can keep a clean floor! The picture shows both the used primer catch tube/bottle as well as the recently completed new primer chute "fence".
  24. sti mags should get you the info you want straight from STI.
