  1. Shucks, doesn't anyone like a real challenge. Let's call is IPSC roulette. Buy a handful of parts from Brownell's and replace all the original parts the day before a really big match. It doesn't run? What went wrong? You forgot to get out the Dremel tool!
  2. My daughter used CloneDVD on its 14 day free trial (the purchase price is $99.99) I, a certified techno-weenie, have not used it. www.clonedvd.net
  3. I tried to check the first, second, fifth and last. All four apply. You say it ain't broke. That's OK. We can fix that! Bill
  4. Don't quote me, but I thought the Stinger was discontinued. Bill p.s. I'm a niner fan. Edited to add: Did a quick check on STI's website. Per STI -- SkinnErgram #88 "Guns that will be discontinued at the end of the 3 rd . quarter ( Sept. 30, 2006 ) unless their order quantities pick up dramatically before then. 6" Trojan ….. all varieties. 6" Eagle ……. all varieties. Stinger ……… all varieties." Maybe sales did pick up. Bill
  5. Last weekend I shot a match that required 139 shots over 5 stages. One reshoot when the timer failed to record the shots, one reshoot when a newbie got carried away taping targets, and one reshoot when our entire (but fortuneately small) squad just plain shot the stage incorrectly. When I got home I only had 8 rounds left. In the future I will take the round count plus 100% just to be safe.
  6. Check your Yellow Pages for metal fabricators and supplies. They usually carry square and rectangular aluminum material in various sizes and metal thicknesses and will on a $$$ per cut basis will cut to length. If there are none listed, possibly check under metal building supplies. HTH Bill
  7. Now I see. Consider some aluminium box tubing (square or rectangular) for strength. Some 1-1/4" x 2-1/2" might be the ticket. Straight, rigid and light weight. Can also be easily drilled for mounting to material or your workspace deck. Bill
  8. January 1980 "Honey, is that a new dress?" She says, "What, that old thing?" January 2007 "Honey, is that a new gun?" I say, "What, that old thing?" After 27 years I've learned from the master. Bill
  9. Maybe if you explained what the project is we might be able to help. Fairly straight with holes to mount to a piece of wood, you might see if you can find the frame to an aluminum door. Bill
  10. I was thinking that after 40 miles or so he would wear it down to where it would finally work its way under the car. Now the guy has this horrendous noise from under his car and since he was carefully watching the road, has no idea what he hit. Then again, he may back out of his garage in the morning only to see it lying there. Just because I live within 60 miles of NASA doesn't mean we have more than our share of rocket scientists. Bill
  11. Eric, Please keep us informed when Cabela's and other sponsors drop Zumbo. I want to make sure each and everyone of them gets a "thank you from a grateful customer" Bill
  12. For those who took the time to express their views of Mr. Zumbo's comments to his many sponsors asking they withdraw their support, also take the time to commend those sponsors who understand where their customers, the shooting public stand and have therefore severed ties with Mr. Zumbo. Remington Arms was quick to sever all sponsorships with Mr. Zumbo. And for that reason, I have e-mailed Remington Arms a message showing my support for their decision. I currently own several Remingtons and I'm sure I will own a few more before I give up the ghost. So as Mr. Zumbo's supporters withdraw their support, we should remember to support the people that support our views and let them know where we stand. (Even if you didn't let his sponsors know your objections earlier, I suggest you still consider letting those whose actions are in our favor know you agree with their actions.) After all the blasting they took in the past 24 hours, they could sure use a few kudos. Bill
  13. As I was leaving the parking lot of the local Home Depot I spotted a nice shiny Mercedes coming my way. But wait, there's something a little different about this one. Sticking from the front of the Mercedes was an orange traffic cone. Not one of those dinky little ones, but one of the 4' high big ones. Somewhere along his route this guy knocked down the cone and was pushing it down the highway. The side of the cone was on the ground with the base up against the bumper like a miniature snowplow. Fell in behind this guy and followed him for over 10 miles. He didn't have a clue. Bill
  14. Interesting. I did have slight primer flow when I went to a lighter hammer spring. I guess this may be the same principle. Thanks for the info. Bill
  15. Not to thread highjack, but what is the purpose of the long firing pin. If I understand correctly, they are great to avoid light strikes due to light hammer (main) springs, but wouldn't the extra length have the effect of piercing primers on hot major loads? Bill
  16. If any good can come from this, its the show of strength and support for the 2nd Amendment put forward by the shooting community. With the speed of lightning, word traveled across the nation of Zumbo's treacherous blog and the shooting community came forward united against it. Zumbo started it. Nugent and Gresham have voluntarily stepped into the middle of it. Now its up to the shooters to decide their fate. There maybe sincerity in Zumbo's apology (it came too fast with too many excuses) but he will not be off the hook in the near future. His actions going forward will best show us his true colors. And to any other "celebrity" that thinks shooters and gun collectors will easily roll over and play dead, take notice. The general public allows you to be famous; they can also make you infamous. Bill
  17. O.K. Order placed. I hope I got it right. Since I'm using the SVI disconnector I need the longer length of the high cap sear spring and when installed I need to trim the tab so that it will not touch the magazines. Correct? Bill
  18. Offer it on the classifieds. I bought some 9x21 brass from Azone's ad on the forum last year. Bill
  19. The 9x19 (9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum) is readily available in a minor power factor loading at any sporting goods store that sells ammunition. Very popular round with sportsmen and law enforcement. You are right that the 9 is the bullet diameter in mm's but the 19 is the length of the brass, not the overall length of the bullet. The 9x21 became popular in the US when USPSA decided it was no longer safe to load 9x19 to a major power factor (then at 175). It was developed as an alternative to 38 super. Now the 9x19 can be legally loaded major, not much calling for 9x21 in new guns. Also no one in the US offers commercially loaded 9x21 (but an exception is imported Fiochi's if you can find them). Due to the limited demand, I'm concerned that in time brass will no longer be offered. (I've shot 9x21 since 1995 and have not come across another 9x21 shooter at a match.) The 9x23 is commercially loaded in major and represents an alternative to 38 super. (Tapered case versus straight wall case.) Not as popular in USPSA as 38 super (and supercomp) and 9 major, but it still has a following in the form of commercial loads available and factory guns manufactured. Depending on your requirements (competition versus hunting versus tin can punching) and your desire to reload versus purchase loaded ammo, here on the forum you can find someone that will help answer all your questions. Bill
  20. After a 10 year hiatus, I came back to USPSA last year with the same problem. Accuracy was great but speed was terrible. The best thing I did was (1) practice dry firing every day and after several months of this, (2) buy Steve Anderson's book of dry firing exercises and then dry fire correctly every night. With such a long layoff, the skills are still coming back slowly, but #1 & #2 has helped me immensely. Bill p.s. The wife no longer complains about the field courses set up through the house.
  21. Fast response! Thanks HSMITH. I plan on using the tri-glide sear spring and tri-glide disconnector with an EGW hard sear. I did not find a tri-glide trigger for Paras on the Infinity website. but if they had one, I would include it. I know several forum members have indicated that they ground off the steel ball, but I want to give it a try in its stock configuration. Considering the small expense of a new disconnector down the road, I'm not sure that in my case the change is warranted. When you say you use the standard 1911 springs in all your doublestacks, are any of those tri-glide sear springs, or do you use another brand. Again, thank you. Bill
  22. I'm fine tuning an order for Brownell's and came across something I've not seen before. The SVI Tri-Glide titanium sear spring (on catalog page 158) is available in 1911 and SVI/STI/Para high cap versions. Since the parts are going into a Para, the choice should be obvious. But I've always used the stock 1911 sear springs and was wondering if anyone knew what the difference between the two sear springs is. Any information is appreciated. Bill
  23. And even if he is sincere, the anti-gunners need only refer to his first article. When we bring up his apology, they will point out it was the solely the byproduct of massive negative response to Zumbo's article by the shooting world. Their argument, his job was threatened, his sponsors could be pulled, so of course he apoligized. I don't think this is over. I don't know if he is sincere. We will see this repeatedly used as ammo against all gun owners (and not just the "assault weapons" owners). Jim started this mess. Its his responsibility to clean it up. In the mean time, I think a little distance between Zumbo and the shooting world is warranted. Bill
  24. I guess that make me 2nd to vote. I've had my 550 since around 1985. Loaded lots of 9x19, 9x21, 38 special, .357 mag and 45 ACP. Currently I shoot about 1000 - 1250 rds of 9x21 per month. If I decide to switch to one of the other calibers, I'm looking at 10 - 15 minutes conversion. After 20+ years I have not outgrown my 550. A 650 or 1050 might be nice, but I don't need it. Instead, I'll use the extra dollars it would cost me to upgrade for a few more 125 gr Zero JHP. Old school maybe, satisfied definitely. Bill p.s. Just checked the poll, for some reason it did not include my vote for a 550 but says sorry, you already voted.
