Over the past years I bought 3 new open race guns to shoot in the IPSC Open Division: 1 Bul Armory SAS2 Ultimate Racer and 2 Bul Armory SAS2 Bullesteros, all chambered in 9mm major. I reload my own ammo and I'm currently at 168 PF (IPSC). Running 9mm major is very hard on these race guns. Since the beginning I take well care of the guns, amongst others I check, clean and lube them everytime I have shot them in training or competition. When you shoot competition in open division, I guess you should be aware that parts and guns will for sure break sooner or later. When I look around me to other open division shooters using STI's, Checkmates, etc. it's somewhere between 25K and 50K rounds. With me it was sooner around 7000 rounds the slide of the UR cracked at the ejection port. Around 6000 rounds the link attaching the frame to the grip of one of my Bullesteros broke off. Both issues were addressed correctly by my gunshop and Bul Armory, but still I missed the guns for almost 10 months ...

Switched from the DAA Alpha-X to the DAA Flex holster.

I've been told by a competitive shooter, who already reloads his own ammo for almost 3 decades, that a different primer rarely significantly increases the PF, but in some rare instances it can increase, but no more than max. 0.5-1.5 PF. Myself, I've reloaded 9 mm major ammo over the past 4 years with CCI, Federal, Magtech, Fiocci and Winchester SPP, but I have not noticed any PF changes using otherwise same reloading components and COAL's and testing with a Labradar to measure the PF.

Update: took apart the assembly (removed the "4 hole gear" from the housing) and inspected everything. There was a bit of gunk so brake-cleaned it away. Then I noticed the 2 set screws were "recessed" in their holes. I tightened them so that a couple thousands were exposed to the gear (upon reassembly), and reassembled the entire thing. Just went through 200 rounds of a mix of Ginex/Federal and no hiccups!
Glad you figured it out!

Hmm, did you reach out to FA Customer Service? This is also an interesting YT channel with alot of videos on the X10: https://www.youtube.com/@bragginrightsprecisionrelo346/videos

Hi, did you check out the instructional videos on the Frankford Arsenal YT-Channel, incl. primer set up and trouble shooting?

Came from an RL1100 to the manual Apex 10, and I can honestly say when set up correctly and kept clean the priming system is 99% trouble free!
I had many more issues with the RL1100's priming system that became a PIA on the first batch of reloads. I have heard that the FW Arms priming linkage system has definitely been an improvement.
Having 10 stations available has been a HUGE improvement to the safety and overall experience; and my goal of eventually automating (digitally) and including the Primer Orientation Sensor among others will be the final "icing on the cake" for me!
IMO, primer issues will always be the #1 concern with these entry level "commercial grade" machines. Having a complete and thorough knowledge of the operating parameters and maintenance requirements will always be the key........
I highly recommend the Apex 10; and their Customer Support is EXCELLENT!!!
Fully agree, once you set up the A10 correctly, know how it operates and you maintain it correctly is a dream and huge time saver. Agree too on the support, with special call out to John Vlieger!

I'm looking to upgrade my current LnL AP and the manual Apex 10 is tied for first place. The big draw is the primer issues i keep seeing everywhere. Has this issue been addressed at Mark VII? Or is it still a plague?
Hi, check out this FB Group for most current updates: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Mark7Reloaders/

You're lucky the gun didn't go bang and you ejected the squib case.
"Amen" to that!

i think that 1.5 lb is very good trigger for any 1911/2011 gun that use leaf spring.
since i don't use L.S. i can use liter trigger set. but i found that 1.5lb is o.k. for me.
Indeed at the end always the individual shooters' preference

I changed the sub 1lb on my open guns to a ~2lb (changed out springs, incl. leaf spring), because it was way too sensitive, for example to prep the trigger (and therefor also too dangerous for competition purposes). For me personally 2lb is the sweet spot beween a light, but more importantly, a safe and reliable trigger. Except for the high level pro-shooters, I don't think regular competitors gain alot with a sub 1lb trigger, but they can loose alot.

Lately I received some questions on if and how I plan my stages based on the HF. Yep, I do, and also constantly try to adjust based on new insights/trials/errors . I put my current 3-step process in the attachment. Point of attention: HF's in IPSC and USPSA are not the same, generally higher in the US. This is meant more for IPSC.

Have both and now only use the AMG for training and matches: high quality, just the right size, easy to use, very good battery life (using external batteries), links up with PS CA.

I heard that Mark 7 will start sending them out somewhere September/October 2023 ... Mark 7 is alledgedly also working on a new priming system for the Apex 10 to replace the tube and also the Primer Express ...

Adopt a process and repeat it consistently. This is a video I made on the topic. Maybe you can find some inspiration in/from it:
