  1. Well, I already have mag poiuches for the guns I shoot in Production...and I don't think I'm inclined to spend $125 a shot to buy more, since the Beltfeed is gun-specific. (And my G21 isn't Production legal, so I'll never shoot it there.) I understand limiting the differences between divisions, but that's a pretty expensive way to overcome the learning curve issue. I got a reply from John at SpeedComp. Nothing they have fits the large frame Glocks, but he'll put it on the development list. I'm not sure how much demand there is, so it probably won't be a priority. So I guess they're off my list. So the search continues... Thanks for the input -- keep it coming! Jim
  2. I sent an email to SpeedComp and got a reply from John. He asked me for the measurements on the Glock 21 mag, then wrote back saying that based on the measurements they won't fit in the STI pouches they are just finishing up. He was going to try to get hold of a G21 mag and try it out to see if the fit was acceptable in any of them. I was impressed with the quick response! Jim
  3. Well, while we're on the subject of the new single stack rules....riddle me this, Batman: What, exactly, is a "standard length" magazine? Is that defined anywhere in the USPSA or IPSC rules? Or is it going to be up to an RO to decide what's standard and what isn't? I'm concerned if we are introducing a new term that is not defined for the sport. I guess I don't understand why the rules continue to skirt around issues. This is an opportunity to clearly state, "Magazines, including the base pad, may not extend more than XX mm beyond the bottom edge of the pistol grip when fully seated." That would be unambiguous and not subject to interpretation. Maybe USPSA needs a glossary like (gasp!) IDPA does to define some terms and keep things standardized. I know...I'm "the new guy". As much as I have enjoyed shooting USPSA so far, I can say that the issue of rules interpretation is becmoing increasingly more furstrating. I don't think most people will try to take advantage of the magazine issue in single stack, but it just strikes me as indicative of some of the issues that seem to plague the rest of the divisions. Jim
  4. Morning, all! I've seen posts in various places where people give statistics on the most popular guns in use among top-level competitors. Stuff like "34 Glocks, 22 STI's..", etc. Is that information summarized anywhere for the various World Shoots? I surfed through the IPSC and World Shoot web sites, but I didn't find it anywhere. Specifically, I'm interested in how many (if any) competitors use Witness/EAA pistols. Generally, I'm just interested to see what pistols are in use out there. Thanks in advance for any help. Jim
  5. I just started practicing with Steve Anderson's book and my new PACT Club Timer III. I ran through the first series of drills, "guessing" at my par times and validating them with the timer. For the first three exercises (5 yd index, 10 yd index and 10 yd surrender index), my par times were all the same. Is that typical? Should I expect some kind of variation between the different drills? Based on my work with the timer, I'm pretty confident that the times are accurate -- not just "wishful thinking". Thanks. Jim
  6. This is what is says on the Rescomp web site: Under the Speed Pouch description it says: So I'm interpreting that to mean that the small frame Glocks do not include .45 ACP and 10mm. If anyone has experience to the contrary, I'd be happy to hear it. Thanks. Jim
  7. I'm going to start shooting my G21 in Limited 10. What mag pouches are big-frame Glock shooters using? The CR Speed Versa Pouches don't fit the .45 ACP. Has anyone tried their Speed Mag Pouches? I've also looked at the Comp-Tac Belt Feed system. Anyone have any reviews? I'm always open to the collective wisdom of folks who have been doing this a lot longer than me! Thanks! Jim
  8. For those of you who answered "no" to #4 (G17 mags in the G19), can you point me toward an appropriate section of the rules that prohibit it? Remember, there is no restriction in Production on magazine length....and there is nothing in the rules that requires a competitor to use OEM magazines ever. It only says "Magazines and speed loading devices must comply with the provisions of the relevant Division." (Rule 5.5.2) Thanks. Jim
  9. They look like a variation of the Steyr trapezoid sights. They take a little getting used to, but I've found that they are very quick to acquire (the Steyr sights, that is). They are also very similar to the Sure Fire sights, except that just puts the point on the triangle...only two places to align. Personally, I wouldn't buy them until they learn how to spell "Sig Sauer" properly! Jim
  10. I ordered mine from Brignoli in Italy (www.brignoliarmi.com). They come in black, red and blue. The run about $5.30 each plus $9.50 S/H - so the more you buy, the lower the per unit cost. My last order took 10 days from placement to doorstep. I agree that magazines have a limited service life, but I found the abuse mine were getting from practice sessions was causing the base pad lips to get stuck in place. (I use the Mec-Gar 17-rd mags with the metal base pads.) Putting the rubber base pads on there has made removal and magazine maintenance much easier. I've raised the question of the "legality" of base pad replacement on the USPSA site. Since nothing in the written rules requires a competitor to use factory magazines, how can something like a rubber base pad be ruled illegal? I know...it's a small step from that to the Taylor weighted base pads. But even there, it's an integral part of the magazine, not just something that's hanging off the bottom. I don't see anything in the rules that specifies a particular "factory-like" configuration for magazines, only the guns themselves. (Weighted magazine attachments in production being the exception). Just FYI, those Beretta base pads are a perfect fit on the CZ and Ruger Mec-Gar magazines, as well. Jim
  11. I second the motion. I've ordered three different holsters from Comp-Tac. The longest one (for a Beretta Vertec) took 48 hours to arrive....and that was with their "standard" shipping. The quality is excellent and the retention is perfect. In fact, I ordered another holster for my Glock 21 just before I got underway -- it shuold be waiting for me when I get home! Jim
  12. I picked up a Glock 21 that I plan on using in Limited 10. As part of the upgrade, I want to replace the stock Glock sights with something else. I've had several people recommend the Heinie rear/Dawson FO front sight (.105") combo as a good choice. Here's my question: is there only one size for the sights? It seems like most Glock sights come in two sizes -- one for small/mid sized frames and one for large (G21) frames. I've only seen the Heinie/Dawson set offered in one size. I know that lots of people use them on G17/G34 -- would they work on something as big as a G21? How much would the POI be off? I have a line on a free set (coming off a G34)....so I'm trying to decide if it's worth the effort or if I should pursue something else. Thanks! Jim
  13. Thanks, Rick. Good to see you here. I'm only planning to shoot USPSA, so it's not an issue right now. I'll see how the slug plug works out but I'll keep the magwell in mind. I looked over so many accessories and sites this weekend, that I think I actually saw the Glockmeister magwell first and forgot! My Steve Anderson book is on the way -- should get here this week. Thanks for all the advice and the encouragement! Jim
  14. Can anyone endorse a magwell for the G21? I just ordered a Seattle Slug Plug because I couldn't find a magwell that seemed to work well with the large frame G21. I wanted something that also added the additional weight (brass) - this is strictly for competition, not for carry. Thanks! Jim
