  1. I had mine pretty much built like an x5 less the slide work and grip module before the x5 came out, and as a result I honestly don’t have a good answer to this question, having shot both plenty.  I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-7k through my FS p320 and I’m more accurate with that than any other one I own.

what weaknesses u are afraid  of  when u shoot 1911 /2011 guns during competitions.

    i mean like: hammer drop

    doubles

    extraction problems

    feeding problems

    mags problems

    thanks.

Occasionally rounds don’t make it all the way home while feeding, and a little bit of trigger slap. But other than that, I’ve had  really good luck with mine.

I am putting this here in the 1911 forum so more Single Stack shooters see it. I have a big Tournament gun bag that was a gift and a midway gun bag that was a prize. What I am looking for is a gun bag that works well for Single Stack. My Tournament bag is too big and the midway bag does not have pockets for magazine storage.

So I am looking for the perfect gun bag for Single Stack. What do you use? I could just get an independent storage container for my Single Stack mags and use the Midway bag. But I do favor the built in storage for mags.

What bag do you like for Single Stack?

I have a 5.11 range qualifier bag that works well for USPSA in general. Has a slot on both ends for your USPSA card, ton of mag slots, room for 2 guns, ear pro, ammo, and misc stuff like screwdrivers and small parts. Not huge, not small. Not really specific to single stack but that’s all I shoot and I don’t think I’ll switch.  It has everything I need and nothing I don’t.

Anyone have suggestions on 1911 grips that are much wider? I have shot Limited with a steel grip 2011 for years and the 1911 is way thin for my grip.

Strike Industries makes some that are pretty wide. Don’t know exact dimensions, but they made it hard for me to get to an oversized release and I have semi-large hands.  Switched to G10’s and am extremely happy.

I watched as a shooter who had loaned out a shotgun choke shoot a stage with no choke in his gun. It didn't go well.  Always check your gear!

Ouch. I don’t shoot much multi-gun at all anymore, but it seems like I always manage to have something go wrong with my shotgun or rifle (mostly training related)

    Hello gents and ladies,

Just wanted to share an experience. First off, once my hands get cold I am pretty much going to have a crap match. Even if I bring hand warmers. I have tried to overcome this barrier but I just can’t shoot at speed with acceptable accuracy and to top it off, I end up making ooor decisions because it messes with my mental game. I am a b class shooter in production looking to make it up to A. Anybody else find cold hands to be a problem?

Yep.  Iowa sectional was chilly in the morning this year. First two stages I felt sluggish (partially to cold hands and partially to just getting warmed up in general). But In general, i shoot a lot better when it’s warmer. Cold hands usually = trigger freeze for me

There's another thread around here about this, but I'll say this: as a C class shooter chasing B, I tend to do better in squads with A & B shooters. I can see a few things they're doing differently than I am. The M/GM shooters are doing too much too fast for me to follow quite yet.

That said, I'd rather be squadded with a M/GM from my Division than A's or B's from another Division. Shooting Single Stack, I'll watch and see if how they run a stage matched up with my plan and take tips that way.

This. So much this. (I realize this post is like 2 years old but it’s exactly how I prefer to be squadded, also shooting single stack)

Had another one this morning while looking for a czechmate. He had pictures and everything but when I tried to get him to call me he's suddenly deaf and can't speak on the phone. As soon as I called him out he deleted the post and no response. Forever sticking to Brian Enos classifieds.

I only ever had one success on a arms list and i think it’s because I was the seller. Somehow got lucky! Enos is where it’s at for sure, though.

  9. Have not gotten into reloading just yet, just picked up a new (to me) .40 single stack with the Iowa Sectional a week away and no ammunition just yet.  I'll be stuck with factory ammunition until I get a reloading rig set up this winter.  Can anyone point me in the direction of some factory ammo that doesn't have any problem making major? (I only ask because I've read that Remington UMC sometimes goes sub-major with .40 and sub-minor with 9mm)

    Thanks in advance.

Pin the grip safety.  Find a tool/method to clean your mags.  I use a brass squib rob and a micro fiber towel.  The micro fiber is flexible enough to go in and out easily.  Cleaning mags is pain in single stack!!

AHhh I've been needing to do that.  Thanks for the reminder!

  11. This is an interesting topic - I watched an MD get DQ’d by a high school RO a couple weeks ago. MD was fine with it, but a quote stuck with me.

”There are two shooters in this sport, those who have DQ’d and those who will”

I do my best to think through how I’m going to do *everything* but I still wonder if/when the time will come.

Wow, that looks like you shot a bunch of hot-loaded lead bullets.

Spencer has a good idea to give it a good soak in a jar of Hoppe's first.  You might also try some of the Double-Tuff bore brushes from Brownell's ( https://www.brownells.com/gun-cleaning-chemicals/brushes-amp-bore-snakes/bore-brushes/double-tuff-bore-brush-prod1244.aspx ).  They are stiffer than normal bore brushes and may help get it out faster.  If that still doesn't do it, you could try a Lewis Lead Remover ( https://www.brownells.com/gun-cleaning-chemicals/patches-mops/lead-remover/lewis-lead-remover-prod21587.aspx ).

Yeah, I'm not sure what happened here to be honest. I usually run a nylon bore brush every 500 rounds or so, bought some inexpensive coated stuff and just started running into this. Never seen it this bad.  Thanks for the info!

  13. Not sure what I have going on here. 8k (ish) through the barrel, mostly 115gr FMJ from various manufacturers:

     Full size 9mm p320.

I’m no gun smith, and nylon/wire bore brushes have not changed anything.  Any info/insight is appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ross

I know running a good stage requires a lot of different things but being a fairly new shooter trying to break things down and focus on what is most important to having a successful stage my initial thought is STAGE PLANNNG is the most critical but would like insight

Stage planning.  And shooting all of your targets. I found when I first started it was easy to get in my own head and not engage targets (I just didnt see them, even though they were right in front of me. Still happens occasionally).
