  1. The only requirement we might consider for people who do want to use their own lights is that it must be on their gun for every other stage of the match.

Rules only allow flashlights attached to the gun in Open division See appendix D1. I also think the there is a rule that states you can not add or remove anything to the gun once the match starts. ie: flashlights, Slide rackers ect. Just could not find it.

  2. I like it when the scores are so close it comes down to the last stage between 2 shooters, and then when 1 shooter beats the other shooter by a mere 2 match points, but then in the Combined Overall results the scores are flipped and shooter 2 ends up coming ahead by another mere 2 match points!

...... kinda puts a smile on my face! ;)

Well if that someone had one less mike/procedural it would not have been so close.

Wish I could have made the match. Unfortunately family health issues prevented it.

  3. Is anyone running a Burris Fast Fire on their open guns? They look pretty solid but have no idea how they hold up. I'm looking to put together and open Glock in .40 (just shooting for fun, Im not the kind that will ever win nationals or anything). I would like to do it a cheap as I can and I can get killer deals on Burris stuff at my shop. Any thoughts on the Fast Fire for open?

I have a Burris Fiast fire and really like it. Glass lens aluminum body. Had it for over a year 10K+ rounds no problems. Way better then the JP with its plastic lens and body. Went through two, on one the led went bad, the with both the dot started to flair after a while due to unavoidable scratch in the lens. Finialy bought the less expensive Burris.

  4. I've never understood why some gun clubs are so exclusive and unwilling to let new members join.

Because there is only a limited amount of range space and time. If you have more members then the range can support then you will have members, that are paying for services/access, not able to use that service/access.

  5. yes they are posted by the club house.

That's great, if you are at the range and not over 100 miles away.

It would be even better if the scores were posted so those that shoot friday could check to make sure their are correct before the match is officialy over and nothing can be done to correct them.

Yes, I have been burned before because of this.

  6. You need to know what non-profit status the club holds with the IRS as there are 28 different ones and most your club would not qualify for. The rules are different for each.

Most likely it is a 501( c)(7) which is for social and recreational clubs.

Under IRS rules, for a 501( c)(7), they only look an gross receipts and not how or where money is used. The IRS allows 35% of the gross income to come from outside sourced such as investment income and sources outside the membership(general public). Of this 35%, only 15% may be derived from the use of the club’s facilities or services by the general public or from other activities not furthering social or recreational purposes for members.

See IRS publication 557 concerning non-profit status info.

So the boards statement that they can not make any money is not true. However, they may know that the income received may put the club beyond the 15% allowed.

We host Appleseed at our club but do not recieve any money for the use of range. We see it as furthering the educational, social, and recational purposes of the club and also gain a few new members.

How do know most of this. Six year board member of a shooting club and this topic comes up at almost every other monthly board meeting.

Of course it is best to consult an accountant or tax lawyer in these maters.

  7. From the Delta website. See the bold highlight.

    "Shooting equipment

Shooting equipment is accepted as checked baggage only. It must fit within the very specific criteria that we outline below.

Declare to the Delta representative that you are checking a firearm

Declare the existence of a firearm to security personnel if a security checkpoint is prior to the Delta counter

All firearms must be declared by the passenger to a Delta representative at the main ticket counter

Present firearm(s) unloaded and sign a "Firearms Unloaded" declaration

Firearms must be packed in a manufacturer’s hard–sided container specifically designed for the firearm, a locked hard–sided gun case, or a locked hard–sided piece of luggage. Handguns may be packed in a locked hard–sided gun case, and then packed inside an unlocked soft–sided piece of luggage. However, a Conditional Acceptance Tag must be used in this case.

Maintain entry permits in your possession for the country or countries of destination or transit

Ensure small arms ammunition is packed in the manufacturer's original package or securely packed in fiber, wood, plastic or metal boxes and provide separation for cartridges

If you need to travel with a weapon as checked baggage, you are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with all Federal, State, or Local laws regarding the possession and transportation of firearms. TSA locks are not approved for securing firearms. For more information about this regulation you can visit the TSA site.

If you are transporting a firearm to the United Kingdom as checked baggage, a permit from the United Kingdom is specifically required. You must contact the United Kingdom for more information about securing this permit.

Ammunition in excess of 11 lbs. per passenger or that contains potential projectiles is not allowed."

  8. Looking for coppers from California to enlighten me on CCW for out of state officers.

I'm pretty familiar with flying and all that stuff, just don't know the state law regarding possession, carry, etc.........

    Thank you,

    Kevin

"The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) is a United States federal law, enacted in 2004, that allows two classes of persons—the "qualified law enforcement officer" and the "qualified retired law enforcement officer" -- to carry a concealed firearm in any jurisdiction in the United States, regardless of any state or local law to the contrary, with certain exceptions."

Do an internet search and you will find the exceptions and these mostly concern where you can carry. IE: State or City prohobits CCW in their building, parks ect.

  9. Pardon me. I meant division. I'm sure you get my point though. You mentioned that I'm probably not seeing enough? Could you elaberate a bit?

With a dot you are seeing differently than with iron sights. The dot is a target focus, as a result you will see the stage differently while shooting it. However, it will take time shooting with a dot before you become comfortable enough to start noticing you are seeing things you did not see with irons. Kind of hard to explain. It's like seeing the front sight lift and knowing exactly were the shot hit on the target. You did not start out seeing this when you first started shooting irons but eventually it began to happen.

I have taken Max and Travis's course and they teach mostly the basics anyway so it will apply to whatever you take, but will most likely get more out of the course with the gun you are most familiar with.

  10. Like most have said it is up to you, the shooter, to make sure the RO scores it right.

To your original question, Yes some shooters keep track of the scores during the match, whatever method works for you, write it down, scan it, take a picture, no RO will take offense. If they do, just say you want a hard copy record for your training/match diary because being an old fart you can't remember Sh-t. :roflol:

  11. Like others have said its just another back-to-back local match. The shots are no harder than the stuff you guys put together at Circleville!

+100 for sure, some of the toughest stages I have ever shot have been at Circleville you should be ok.

Take every change you get to sitdown and rest, it will be a long day.

Help set and past, but when you are "on deck" stand back and make you finial preparation for the stage.

When finished with shooting a stage and you have checked and signed you score sheet, prepare all you equipment for the next stage before you do anything else.

Don't let others in the squad dominate the walk through. Does not happen very often but it can if you let it.

THe RO's are there to help, but if you do not like a call, ask for the CRO, and then the RM if needed.

If you do not understand anything about the walkthrough or are unsure weather you can do something, ask, be specific with the question to the RO.

    Have FUN!!

  12. What class are you using your 9mm x5 in, and how competitive is it?

In USPSA only the "P226 X-Five All Around (45.2 oz.)" is listed on the approved production gun list. other wise limited, limited 10, or open and shooting minor

From the SIG website looks to be used by at least one top IPSIC shooter in Europe.

  13. When I had my Loadmaster, I lit off a full tray of primers. The only reason I didn't get blasted in the face is because I was way on the left side of the press. I called Lee, and they SOLD me a blast shield.

I now have a Dillon 550, and even though it's a little slower that the few times the Lee actually ran, I don't miss all the problems I had with the Lee!

    ++1000

Started with a lee setup. Had lots of problems, even blew a Winchester primer.

Dillion was well work the money just to not have to fiddle with press every dozen rounds or so.

  14. I was hoping I could use a 9mm barrel as I didn't see a specific ruling in the USPSA manual prohibitting it but I could have easily overlooked it. I have been and plan on shooting in Limited and had read that replacement barrels were ok as long as they were the same length as the production barrel. I checked and both are 4.49" long. Maybe not in the spirit of the rules but I was hoping I could squeak past :) I would like to shoot major in the future in .40 but am planning on sticking with 9mm or the time being. But if that is the case I'll end up grabbing a G17 and maybe a 22 later when I can afford it. Thanks again!

You can use a Glock 22 with the replacement 9mm barrel in limited. You can not in production.

  15. Apologies for the off-topic, but I didn't get a chance to read the article because I just realized I don't get Blue Press anymore. But I own a Dillon... whine, whine...

Does buying from our host not qualify one to get the magazine???

ETA: disregard. Just saw the other thread on DT's article and Blue Press' phone number.

Just go to their website and register for it they send it to you for free don't even have to own anything Dillon either.
